Fellow Oregonians on here should consider entering the Spirit Mtn Football contest... next year.
I talked to the director of promotions today and he said they were very satisfied with the response it generated and he thinks they will bring it back again next year.
If the payouts stay the same it will be 17 weekly "pick the winner" (no point spreads!) prizes as follows:
1st place - $1,000 ($500 cash/$500 free slot play)
2nd - $800 (same 50/50 breakdown all the way down the line)
3rd - $500
4th - $400
5th - $300
6th thru 10th - $200 (I won twice)
Total season wins prizes are:
1st - $10,000
2nd - $5,000
3rd - $3,500
4th - $2,500
5th - $1,500
6th thru 10th $750
The only obstacle that might dissuade some is you HAVE to enter all 17 weeks to be eligible for the season wins prizes.
However, there is a BIG plus to this: Anyone who correctly picks 201 or > out of 245 games (Sunday and Monday games only--which gives contestants almost a full week to get their picks in) will win $500,000.
Unfortunately--a BIG unfortunate!--I missed the first 2 weeks due to not knowing about the promotion. Also, this is the first year they have had it.
The season wins winner correctly picked 170 out of the 245 (69%) scheduled games while 2nd thru 10th picked 169 games with a tie breaker system (using the 17-week total points scored by both teams on the Monday games).
I went back to weeks 1 and 2 to honestly try to figure out who I would have picked and week 1 I had 11 winners while week 2 (brutal!) had only 8. The total came to 170 games for a "Fez-like" finish. I am sick to my stomach for missing those 2 critical opening weeks to say the least.
So, for any Oregonians that are interested should check it out sometime in the preseason for next year's contest. I really think it would not be out of the realm of possibility for someone to get super lucky and win the $500,000 to boot. I know I feel I can do much better than I did this year. Hell, the "SeaPigeons" just up north cost me about 8 games alone. Chokers!
Good luck with the playoffs and any futures bets you guys may have as well. I still (from a previous "futures" thread) like Philly (28:1. Was 15:1 then it went down to 9:1), New England (11:1) and San Diego (4:1) "to win" the Super Bowl (@ Pinny). Also the Saints look pretty tempting as well at +425 (they were +220 at 5Dimes before they regressed to the mean).
Side note: Will the Lakers EVER win in Portland?? Now 9 in a row. Amazing.
Correction: In case someone happens to get the results at SMC I made a huge blunder. I don't know if it is the early stages of senality or I've just been crunching too many #s.
1st place had 175 total wins; 2nd 173; 3rd 171; 4th thru 10th 169. So I would've finished in 4th place, not tied for first.
