Freeney The Saints, Colts and everyone who wagers seriously must assume Dwight Freeney will not play. Or at least the Dwight Freeney that everyone knows and has watched.
I can't think of a single player in the NFL who is more dependant on ankle stability than DF. Even running backs with similar injuries can run effectively straight ahead. But Freeney's gig is the quick, power spin move. Think about trying to do this on an ankle that isn't right. Even if he spins on the good ankle, he's got to land and push off and change direction on the bad one. Forget about it. His ankles have to be 100% to do what he does.
Even if he suits up and plays, he won't be Dwight Freeney, he'll just be a warm body.
Color him a complete non-factor, and if he plays, a possible liability.
Is his absence worth a full point? No. But his situation was all the market needed to re-examine and correct the early steam on the Colts.
