Golden Nugget Friday GOYS Remember the scene in one of the Pink Panther Sequels where evil Dreyfus decries he will destroy the world...........UNLESS..........1 MAN clueso dies.
Unsuspecting Clueso is at the Octoberfest, and the best assassins in the World Descend upon him "My God........it will be a shooting gallery!".
In the movie, Clueso beats them all, as they wind up all unsuccussful (killing each other off).
In real life this WAS the scene at the Golden Nugget, ridiculously prepared Savvy local bettors came in and POUNDED away at lines that no sane man would want to even attempt to make with so much uncertainty. A funny thing happened though........the GN like Clueso Won. And won pretty good. I personally consider it to be one of the larger upsets in Las Vegas Betting history.
IN 2010 however, it was a different story. Perhaps overconfident (and not realizing how UNlucky the betting assassins had been the last 2 years) the Golden Nugget happily put up 2010 GOYS..........and in hightly technical terms, they got annhilated in Day 1 betting. How bad was it? It would not surprise me if 2/3 of the bets taken in the first hour of action won. Even at a $1,000 limit, that's a lot of money heading out the door. Literally 80% of the games that moved 2 points won ............vs. the opening AND the closing number Day1 of betting.
"Octoberfest in June" is going to happen again this Friday, with many of the savvy local bettors descending upon the place Friday at noon. What will the scend look like? Imagine the Bar Scene in Star Wars...........and somewhere Han Solo will likely be firing in against Ohio State with his blaster.........
Given the 2010 results, it is a huge credit to the GN that this likely loss leader will continue in 2011. Tony Miller knows that the entire process gives the Nugget great PR and media attention. THey don't need to win.........they just need to minimize any damage.
Who do I personally like? Come by Friday afternoon after I attempt to get down.......no doubt hip deep in competition...............
Meanwhile, the biggest bettors in Vegas eschew the spectacle.........no doubt Billy Walters saying "I bet 100 a game ".......not 1k on 100 games.
