How To Make Good Money From This Site....

How To Make Good Money From This Site.... Give a man a fish, feed him for a day....I followed Fezzik's site and several others for years, but nobody has made me more money than Fezzik, and almost none of it has been directly from playing his picks. Here's what happened... 1.Fezzik talked about line value, so I studied line value, then I heard them refer to Stanford Wong's book about Sports Betting so I read that and learned what the value of a half-point was worth. King Yao's Weighing the Odds in Sports Betting was another one. 2.Fezzik talked about the value of having several outs at different types of shops (square, sharp, etc...) getting you the best numbers, so that's what I did, because I learned the value of these half-points and the rogue numbers Fezz talked about. 3.Then Fezzik showed how to turn $1000 into $10,000 by betting, which also was a display of the Kelly Criterion, which I then studied and got enough info to employ. 4.Fezz also showed thru time how to be successful at contests, if you listen. 5.I talked to other sharp bettors from the site, and we exchanged (carefully) information, and helped make each other profitable bettors. 6.I studied statistics and probabilities enough to employ them in basic casino and sports gambling. Possibly the most indispensable part of gambling. You'll never get the confidence of knowing what you're doing without knowing stats and probabilities. 7.I looked over at Anthony's section and picked up information and learned how to play profitably in casino games, and people turned me to good info and additional sites regarding casino games. 8.Fezz says it is almost impossible to play profitably at widely available lines, so I learned how to make my own numbers and develop different types of models to help get good plays at numbers better than the closing line. ********************************************** My opinion is nobody is gonna give you free money, but a lot of people are going to make money off of people looking for free money. Like everything else, it takes a lot of work, and an understanding of the nature of the business. 8 game losing streaks and 5-15 runs, even 40-60 runs are part of the business. The difference is in knowing you have a long-term edge, and properly managing money will allow you to emerge intact from these aspects of the business which either discourage or destroy the amateur bettor. Picks with WA numbers posted are almost for fun, to spark interesting, informative and educational conversation regarding handicapping. They also reflect the serious side of the business as it is money. But they aren't to make people rich, per se, and that's where a lot of new people get frustrated because they expect to see a lot of money from these picks, and aren't aware of the downsides. I would suggest posting a sticky at the top of this site called "What To Expect From This Site" so customers don't get as frustrated when picks lose, and a section entitled "What to Expect From Sports Gambling" so folks understand the nature of sports gambling and to increase their education and enjoyment level and don't suffer from unrealistic expectations, ignorance and pipe-dreams. Fezzik may self-admittedly not be the best handicapper, but he is a GREAT bettor, and a great contest player imo.
Couldn't have said it better. Your post is what this site should be about, not looking for picks for next weeks games. In building my models, which have done very well, I seeked information from people who could help me learn. Getting picks was worthless to me because if they go away tomorrow, I am left with nothing. Learning how to handicap, on the other hand, is priceless and will last you a lifetime. Thanks for the great post!
FINALLY, someone has grasped what this site is all about! Well said Climate, Fezzik is a genius when it comes sports betting, it's just that most people haven't figured that out.
I agree with what you said climate. I think many gleaned a lot of good info from the discussions of the original site, not from any picks themselves per se. We've learned to apply for ourselves the different successful fishing techniques.

Kind of off topic but has anyone read the book conquering risk? I heard it was a good book.
FINALLY, someone has grasped what this site is all about! Well said Climate, Fezzik is a genius when it comes sports betting, it's just that most people haven't figured that out.
This is the type of information I would prefer, lessons on what you sharps are seeing with line movement, etc. I still don't see much of this, just NE 2 wt, etc which I appreciate but would rather know the whys of the pick. Agree the site should be more proessional info like you would get in Fezz seminar? Just my opinion.
No offense, but from my opinion, pretty much everything you said was perhaps true for years past. This year, not at all. The only thing I have "learned" or rather heard from Fez this season was this:
8.Fezz says it is almost impossible to play profitably at widely available lines, so I learned how to make my own numbers and develop different types of models to help get good plays at numbers better than the closing line.
I still have hopes for this site, but I continue to be let down. I think many people forget what Anthony said Summer 09 about this board: "Discussions of theory and sharing of information will be highly encouraged. It won't be Nirvana -- arguing will be allowed, but it will have to be civil. There will also be lots of picks..." In my opinion, being a member last year and this year, I got much more out of the board last year from Fez. I got little to nothing out of him this year. Picks that hit marginally and usually lost more often than won, but most of all, no interesting Fez discussions on theory, no Fez "sharing of information" that was of unusually high value. Again, being here this yr and last, I liked last year better. My advice is to return back to that. Fez posting actual plays more frequently, as well as theory and reasoning. That was severely lacking this year.
I think you're missing the point on two counts. There are tons of picks. Anthony did not say there would be tons of Fez picks. I don't want forced picks out of obligation. The market constantly evolves, and although finding handicapping edges was the road to success in the past, it now can only be done vs openers. The money today is in arbitrage, made possible by the increase in alternative lines (besides a -110 line you can find spreads with +140 or -160 or whatever). The lesson that we should be learning now is how much half a point is worth TODAY, looking for how much the nontraditional line differs, and betting where it is appropriate. You don't have to know a thing about the sport you're betting on, other than what a half-point is worth. The rest is coming up with as many outs possible that offer nontraditional lines. And in-game betting.
