I am constantly amazed at how bad the 'experts' are with simple questions... Matt Youmans asks the excellent question "Will the new OT rules diminish the chance the game will and 3" "Expert"......."No, only a few games go OT, and despite the rule changes, it is still very likely it will stand land on 3". I think the 'expert' than actually inferred we cannot be sure, since we haven't seen any games whether there will be any effect", also arguing "Teams are still going to kick fgs on opening drives, and now we are might get MORE games landing on 3since the other team can score a TD and land it on 3 now. Good grief. The correct answer of course is that the rule changes will make it just a little less likely that the game will land on 3. And GIVEN the game goes OT, it is significantly more likely the game won't land 3 (although of course it is still a huge favorite over landing 6 OR 7). 1. Teams can score a 7 on the opening drive 2. Teams on an opening drive facing 4th and 1 or less will very likely go for it now, and not kick fgs. The 'clever' response IMO, IS THAT THE INCIDENCE of '7' in OT is going up by an infinite amount!
Still can't land on seven. Opening drive FG is the only time the game continues. https://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5022064

Like the old overtime rules, under the new rules, an extra point is never tried. Old overtime score possibilites: 2-0,3-0,and 6-0. New overtime score possibilites: 2-0,3-0,6-0 plus if the offensive team scores a FG on its first possession, the extra possibilites: 3-2,5-0,9-0,5-3,6-3,and 9-3. Obviously the first 3 listed will be very infrequent because they require scores that are very rare and must occur on the kicking team's first possession after an opponent first possession FG.
I think a game can also go 9-0 in overtime as well with a defensive score on the subsequent drive after a made field goal.

Yes, if they don't fall down. Is it still a bad beat if you can explain it in theory? Could also happen if the defense falls on a fumble in the end zone, though.
I think a game can also go 9-0 in overtime as well with a defensive score on the subsequent drive after a made field goal.
True, inadvertently left that case out. Although probably even less likely than a 2-0 result since it requires Team A first possession FG and Team B first possession allowing an immediate defensive TD. More likely but similar to 3-2 and 5-0 which also require the Team A first FG plus an offensive/defensive safety on Team B's 1st possession.
Great now I have one more thing to worry about when I have a team plus 8 going into OT!!
