20 points represents 4 scoring drives. 21 represents 3 scoring drives. The team scoring 20 probably 1. had more offensive yards; and 2. had more possession. Your mean drive gets about 25 yards. I estimate that your mean scoring drive has about 50 yards. The time eaten in that extra score might cost the opponent an extra half possession.
