Iowa, DUMB football

Iowa, DUMB football 1. Jumped offsides on 4th an 1 when obvious Ind was just faking going for it 2. Fielded a punt on their 5 with :30 left. FUMBLE!! .........bad coaching on that. Special teams coach HAS to tell the kid don't make any risky plays. ANOTHER example of an outside consultant would have saved them by telling them not to try to return the kick.

The kid has probably been taught since he was in high school to put his heels on the 10 yard line. 19 year old kids make mistakes. They aren't little robots that coaches can program and perform perfectly. This is why I asked you last week if you had ever coached before............
Was bad coaching but I think it was in calling the TO. Ind was around the 50 so you know the punt will go down to your endzone and you have like 35 seconds left - think should have gone into half down the 7. Ind would have let it run out. Go for the block I guess but they didn't really try - so it was stupid to keep the game going. But I'm glad how it turned out because had to take some Iowa -10 2H which is looking pretty good.
easy cover though...

NO NO NO .....NOT a NORMAL situation :26 seconds left. F the 'normal' rules. Tell the kid if he fields the punt, his scholarship is gone. PERIOD.
I agree with that too - I'm just saying Farenz should not have even called the TO to get to that point. Could have let clock run out - why call the TO. Don't even think you can risk a block with the ball on the 50 as a 15 yard roughing takes Ind down to 35 with 30 seconds and TO's left. Iowa got greedy - thought they could go 90 yards in 35 seconds?? Made no sense. But agree with then trying to field too - as you know scholarships are year by year - you can take them away.
:26 seconds left. F the 'normal' rules. Tell the kid if he fields the punt, his scholarship is gone. PERIOD.
Exactly. You really shouldn't even have him back there to field the punt. 100% on the coach.
Naah, we're being to soft on these kids. Don't pull his scholarship. Pull out a gun and shoot him. That'll show him. Did that remind anyone of the SEC Championship bout 5 years ago? It was Arkansas (+3) vs Florida. Ark fell way behind early then came back big. They had just taken the lead then gotten a stop, they were totally taking control. Florida punted, then this doofus from Arkansas tried to run it down and catch it over his shoulder on like the 2 yard line! Naturally he muffed it, Gators punched it in to take the lead and Arky went straight down the drain. It would've been totally hilarious if it hadn't have cost me a bet.
mcowboy, i do remember that game and the punt fumble. and although i appreciate your humor/disagreement with fezzik (shoot him), i do think that ST mistakes (decision based) are particularly bad, as those "teams" are on the field for about 10% of the plays, versus 45% for O and D. you cannot allow a 10% contributor to lose a game for you....literally unforgivable!!
Fezzik -- I will stop asking you if you've ever coached. It's quite apparent that you haven't. Feel free to keep on criticizing from behind the safety of your computer monitor.
