Jim Tressel

Jim Tressel Anybody catch the end of Ohio St/Navy? Buckeyes were up 15 with just over 6:00 left, facing 4th and 2 at the Navy 16. The obvious decision is to kick the FG and ice the game. Tressel (one of the best coaches in the biz IMO) got greedy and went for the pointspread cover. Oops. OSU got stuffed and on very next play Navy hit 85 yd TD pass, 29-21. On next series, on 3rd and long Pryor was int'd and Middies punched in TD with 2:34 left. Watching Tressel on the sideline b4 the 2 point try, I was wondering what might be going through his mind..."OMFG, I've just trainwrecked our whole season trying to cover a f***ing spread! I am SO fired!" Thankfully for Tressel and the Bucks, Navy mysteriously decided to throw for the 2, and it was pick-deuced and the Buckeyes escaped. Too funny. Of course, the ESPN announcers were totally oblivious to all this, they actually agreed with the decision to go for the 4th and 2!
About 4 years ago leading by 27 with less than a minute to go at home vs Northwestern....Tressel sent out his FG kicker to kick a 52 yarder. Spread was 28.5. I'll never forget that one. burger
Then, they second-guessed the decision after the fact. It got me a split on the game. If OSU kicks, it's 32-14 (+22 for Navy and UN 47'). 6:00 left. Navy runs 3 min off the clock and doesn't score, then OSU may run out the clock deep in their own territory. Almost had 2-0 on that game.
Alumni like it when you cover the spread - I dont think Tressel or Spurrier have ever been quiet about this

if Jim wanted to cover the spread, he should have tried something more than run up the middle 3x after it got to be 2nd and 3
Alumni like it when you cover the spread - I dont think Tressel or Spurrier have ever been quiet about this
obviously paterno doesn't believe in this
Nope - Paterno has class.
Nope - Paterno has class.
He may have class but he wasn't exactly taking a knee during their last drive! If you didn't see the game go check out the play by play!
Nope - Paterno has class.
sean, this isn't pop warner. with the current ranking system, teams should be playing at full speed the entire game. obv, it makes sense to put in back ups to get them experience and avoid injury to starters but there's no reason a team shouldn't stop trying to score. in addition, as noted, it's not like they were running up the gut with the fullback. as a matter of fact, if the moronic wide receiver went out of bounds they would have one more shot at the end zone.
didn't bet game, so no sour grapes, but i wondered why they didn't score in the second half, so i looked at pbp. they punted on 4th and 1 at the akron 35, and on 4th and 2 at the akron 32, missed a 49 yd fg. if they played on 4th down, they may---may--have put up a few more.
