Fla St game last night, Maryland receiver is juggling the ball, about to catch it, cornerback Greg Reid lays into him, shoulder to chest, guy goes flying backwards, ball pops up, another defender catches it and returns it for a TD and 17-3 FSU lead.
ref calls 15 yards for hitting a defenseless receiver high ( he hit him shoulder to chest). Maryland keeps ball scores later on drive to make it 10-10.
I remember when "defenseless receiver" started and nothing wrong with it then, it was used to stop unneccesary laying out a guy who already missed the catch and couldnt even see the hit coming. Now it can be used when a defender breaks up a pass.
it seems now, some of these refs are looking to think up a penalty if someone gets hit hard
