Lucky's Going Downhill Fast?

Lucky's Going Downhill Fast? A gambler last night went to Lucky's and asked for $2,000 on an onernight NBA line. Lucky's denied the bet. He then immediately asked for it for $500. Lucky's told him the line had changed, as 'someone else' had just bet it. Yeah, LOTS of people POUNDING in NBA overnight bets during the 4th quarter of MNF. After a promising start, this book has become somewhat of a local joke due to ridiculous decisions like that. If I was in charge, I would fire the night sports manager for bad customer service. If he argued the line was off (it wasn't off by but 1/2 a point), I'd reprimand him for not watching the lines closely enough. One day books like this will figure out that bad customer service costs them tremendously. Due to bad PR AND due to other concerns. These are the same guys that trespass acted a friend of mine for winning and wanting to get paid immediately. What a disgrace.
Last time I was in there it was to bet an NFL total. It was preseason, but week 3 or 4. I can't even remember how much I asked for, but it was a nickel or more. They didn't move the line on me, but gave me $330. As you say, if you can't take a nickel, don't put up a line. Oh, that's a lie. I was in the Plaza recently for something (I still cringe at the thought of the smell walking in that place) and wanted to use my FIVE DOLLAR matchplay that is offered in the LVA coupon book. The ticket writer was not familiar with the coupon and said he didn't know if they could honor it after looking at it for 3 minutes and handing it to the "manager". LOL...I need to start giving up quicker on stuff like this because it's clearly not worth my time, but I guess it becomes an ego thing -- I just want what is offered. Not hard. Anyway, I believe the manager was smoking out on the floor, puts out his cigarette and throws his shirt back on, takes the coupon, is in the back for a while (he has other more important things to do obviously, like smoke), comes back in what was at least 10 minutes and finally honors the coupon. Assholes.
Lucky's got hit hard in their first 6 months of business and now they have taken a "Leroys" approach that involves limiting their exposure and marketing themselves to the low rolling, low hassle clientele. I actually like most of the staff. Funny story...I was in the Plaza last January when the supervisor came over the loudspeaker and said security would be coming around to check to see if you had a live betting ticket, or else you would have to leave. I asked what the deal was and he said that the bums had been coming in and sleeping in the sportsbook to stay out of the cold and the day before they had a "bumfight."
As you can tell from Fezzik's update, Lucky's has been proactive in addressing this, which I think is great. A high-ranking Brandywine exec asked if he could further address the situation on this board and we agreed. Look for a post from LuckyDan. I hope you'll all treat him well, as this is the type of open-mindedness that we're looking for from the books and the casinos in general.

The only time I get upset about a bumfight is when I miss one. That could be a problem. Now that I think about it, that might be the best thing they've offered in quite some time. They should put that shit on the marquee. I don't ever remember anyone ever leaving a sportsbook because of a bumfight. Nothing packs the joint like a bumfight, if only for about 15 minutes. And you can't beat the buzz it brings to the crowd. But you can't start harassing and upsetting ALL the customers because you have some not-so-desirable clientele in the joint. I was sitting in the Plaza about 3 months ago, and about 9 o'clock, with a bunch of people watching the games, the sportsbook manager comes over to the TVs, and without saying a word to anyone, just shuts off all the TVs and walks away. All the bettors just simply stare at each other and say "WTF?". Then half the people start saying "we're not coming here anymore". I go to the window ask the guy "what's up with that?" and he tells me, "We're closing". Then, a few minutes later, security tells me I have to leave the sportsbook area. There has to be a better way to handle this situation. Personally, I think they need to schedule more bumfights.
Lucky's response [FONT="Arial"]Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention and thank you to Anthony for allowing us to post here and respond to some of the comments on this board. We have investigated the incident that Fezzik raised in his initial post regarding the NBA overnight and determined that this was simply a mistake by one of our nighttime bookmakers, who was juggling a number of things at the time. Our ongoing policy to take $1,000 limits on NBA overnights. We constantly strive to provide the best customer service and accommodate all patrons. If you have any further questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to post on this board or send me a private message. I will respond as soon as I can. Thanks again. I think the point has been that there are a very few books that are willing to set rules and take action from all abiding players. Lucky's came out of the gate looking like it might be another to do this and came out with some good promotions, such as the free football contest. But then it fell back into the same trap as the other lesser books that, for whatever reason, want to treat certain players differently from others. I've never understood this. The books that don't do this have proven that it isn't necessary.
I always used to go to the little book at the Casino Fandango in Carson. Then Luckys took it over: they don't let you make teaser parlays, they open late and close early, everyone there is always in a bad mood, I rarely bet dimes so I never got an amount turned down, but now always stop at Bodine's or Carson Valley Inn (CalNeva). They let you do about anything and once in awhile they even smile there.
oh, the glory days of doing the dango. one of the few times i've been able to take 3.5 on an ot line.
