LVAsports pleased to announce Alf Musketa will join LVA as our senior handicapper
Alf will be handicapping and contributing in several sports, essentially picking up the slack between football seasons for Fez. This is quite a coup for us. Alf is good and I can tell you that he's been marketed in the past, with many takers, at prices that far exceed our membership fees. I'll say up front, though, that this addition does not change our model. We will not be grading Alf's picks, keeping records, or asking him to post a specified quota of picks or comments. This approach has worked very well for us, along with providing high value for our customers and we will continue with it. We hope you see this as the value-added that it is and we will continue our attempts to improve this product as we go.
Sounds like a great addition, good job. I guess, though, I still don't get what would be wrong with an accurate record being kept of his plays. I would think it would just be another "value-added service" for your customers. What's the downside to an accurate record being kept against the posted (widely-available) lines?
Welcome Alf.
i hope alf knows college hoops this site needs more cbb hoop gurus who win!

welcome Alf---hope you enjoy your stay
Kudos all around. Good job.
Obvious downside would be that people would know that Fezzik is hitting 45% :-)
Another foolish comment. If you think that, then don't bet the picks he puts up. I've said this before and I'll cut it off at the pass once more. I've been down this road before. Attempting to grade picks and keep records is a) an extraordinarily time-consuming chore, and b) essentially impossible. When we did this in other incarnations, more time was spent fighting and arguing over what was widely available (or even available at all) than anything else. Those arguments dominated the boards and were just plain time, energy, and spirit sapping. When we put this board together, my first rule was "no official recordkeeping." So far, I'm thrilled with that decision. Everyone's circumstances are different. You should all be keeping your own records and operating according to your own results. If you want to take me on about this a little bit and post an opposing view, OK. But I will not let this degenerate into a big argument -- this rule stays.
Would there be any objection to an independant source (me for example) posting a record of his picks based on the lines he posts the picks at?
No objections! People who have bet my stuff have won during the last 10 plus years. Monitors have always had me over 53% (Joe Flex, Computer Bob, etc). 2009 was a strange year as the early year Futures did great, the contest picks we were promoting did great, the other plays lousy.
Likewise, I don't care who posts what they "think" the record is. But it will still be one man's reckoning and the inevitable that wasn't really available, you missed this play, that was only a lean, etc. will no doubt ensue. Point is, it will take something very special for me to take it as gospel. Further to that, I'm amazed that someone like Dreamer can throw something together and everyone says -- yes, that's correct. Baloney. It would take a couple of accountants to come in and get that right and complete. Am I afraid of the results? Not remotely. But I'm afraid of what goes along with the process, which is the reason for my stance.
