Miguel Cabrera blew a .24 Sat morning at 6am

Miguel Cabrera blew a .24 Sat morning at 6am Cabrara had a huge scratch on his face for Sat. night's game. The tigers handled this badly. No wonder why Cabrera went 0-4 Sat night, leaving 6 runners on base! Dombrowski had to pick Cabrera up from the drunk tank early Sat morning. I think the Tigers are dead....and Minny Tigers need to ask some tough questions of Cabrera By MICHAEL ROSENBERG FREE PRESS SPORTS COLUMNIST Forget, for a moment, that Miguel Cabrera apparently got into a physical altercation with his wife. We don’t know exactly what happened, and since neither Cabrera nor his wife apparently wants to cooperate with police, we might never know. He was not arrested, and no charges were filed. For the record, Birmingham police determined that Cabrera and his wife were “aggressors” in an incident Saturday morning. I’m not saying he’s completely innocent, and I’m not saying he hit her. I’m saying we don’t know. Concentrate, instead, on this: The Tigers’ best player had a blood-alcohol content of .26, more than three times the legal limit, according to police. At 6 a.m. on the morning of what was, effectively, a playoff game. Miguel Cabrera has put up some big numbers in his career. But .26 might be the most remarkable. I don’t know what the Tigers will say about this when they meet the media at the Metrodome on Tuesday. But I have a pretty good idea of what they will not say: that they are shocked; that he is the last guy on the team they would expect to drink so late at night, so late in the season. In the days of Bobby Layne and Mickey Mantle, athletes were expected to play hard on the field, play hard all night, and then come back the next morning, in whatever condition they were in, and do it all again. But the financial stakes are greater now. Cabrera, 26, has played at least 157 games in every season since 2004. He never asks out of the lineup, never complains about injuries, even when they are legitimate — he played his way through a painful hamstring injury in June. He produced at an MVP-caliber for the Tigers this year. The Tigers gave up a ton to get Cabrera: their best position prospect (Cameron Maybin), their best pitching prospect (Andrew Miller), $153.3 million (Cabrera’s contract) and their senses (hey, they gave Dontrelle Willis $30 million at around the same time). So far, it has all been worth it. Cabrera has been an elite player. Maybin and Miller have not panned out yet. But Tigers president Dave Dombrowski should be nervous. His franchise is on the hook for the next six years of Cabrera, at roughly $20 million per year. And when you invest that much in a player, you are investing in the person, too. It is one thing for Cabrera to press in big situations, as he did this week (swinging at the first pitch way too often) and, frankly, throughout the year. As a player, he can work on that. But when you have a person who thinks it is OK to have a .26 blood-alcohol content at 6 a.m. on one of the most important days of the year, he either has a problem or doesn’t understand what is at stake — or both. Cabrera also probably doesn’t understand how hard it is to be a great player into his 30s. I don’t have all the answers here. But whenever this season ends, Dombrowski and his staff need to ask some hard questions of Miguel Cabrera. A lot of ballplayers enjoy the nightlife, and this isn’t a moral judgment. It’s about an investment. The Tigers have to do what they can to make sure they keep getting their money’s worth from Cabrera. And Cabrera needs to listen, for his own sake. Not to me. Maybe not even to the Tigers.
the whole team should be blowing, on average, a point 38 after this collapse. leyland is probably chain smoking from now til game time. good luck in minnesota, tomorrow...not gonna happen.
.26... If, for example, it was beer that was consumed, a .26 would result from drinking around 15-18 beers (12 oz) steadily over about a 2-3 hour period.
I'm guessing tequila. Miguel and his brothers love the Sauza Gold. That shit gets you happy and jovial at first, and then really crazy later on in the night. LOL Twins RL. The Tigers will find a way to self-destruct.

Actually, disagree Lake Tahoe Kid. These Tigers, as I've said before on these boards, have persistently marched to the beat of their own drum. When people blew them, citing them as serious contenders, they proceeded to tank. And vice versa. They have thrive in situations mired by doubters. These Twins have put together an incredible September to force this playoff, making me reluctant to call this a true "choke job." The Tigers have gone 9-11 in their last 20, and the Twins 16-4. This is how you blow a 7-game lead with 26 to go. In many ways, though, I think these Twins might be emotionally spent. They've played through the loss of their best player (Morneau), the emotions of closing out the Metrodome, and now the emotions of a 1-game playoff. The Tigers, meanwhile, have faced their own, self-created adversity (i.e. the Miguel Cabrera situation, blowing a 7-game lead). I think the Tigers have quite a few big-game players. Polanco, Guillen, and Magglio (recently). I also love the fact that Cabrera is going to get an opportunity to atone for his horrific Septemeber and his off-the-field failings all in one game. I'll gladly take the better pitcher in the match-up (and Porcello has been scary good down the stretch, even better than Verlander) at plus money.
I'm actually expecting a decent outing from Porcello, so I do agree with you PistolPete. The only question is will the Tiger's be lacking in offense, which has been the problem in the games they have been losing down the stretch. I was at the game in Detroit when Baker faced Robertson. Baker was dominating, but it was against Detroit's "B" lineup, headed up by Ramon Santiago, that was dead. We will see the "A" lineup tomorrow. Perhaps +155 is worth a small play?
You might be right pistolpete about the atonement of Cabrera, but the Tigers have been shakey on the road and are the team that has been on a emotional decline. Conversely, the Twins have been red-hot and have basically scored at will recently and come in with all the confidence in the world. Give me the confident hot team vs a pitcher that is 0-2 w/ 6.30 ERA at the Dome, along with his team's 2-7 record there in the last 9 meetings to boot. We will find out tomorrow who's emotionally spent. Good luck.
