Mike Smith 4th down call pretty weak BTW: If my facts are inaccurate please keep in mind I'm only a bettor and I can't hear the sound of a game in a casino. Apologies if I come off as an idiot.
I think we've been there before with Mike Smith. The decision is fine I guess. I guess I would have kicked the FG to be honest but each to his own. I'm especially kicking a FG if my sole idea to convert 4th and 1 is to have Matt Ryan do a QB sneak.
The OL had no chance here as the D line just collapses to the ground. I'm sure any other call and the Falcons have a greater chance to make the 1st down but of course it involves risk.
This horrible call sets up a situation where an entire team has to quit on him as what player could possibly believe you deserve to win a game with this this type of decision making and play calling? Perhaps I'm being too demonstrative with that statement but how incredibly deflating.
The dumbest argument I have ever heard to defend more 4th down attempts is that their success rate and and even worse one is pointing to the average yard gained per play. The problem is of course that you start seeing defenses that if you really ran your most effective play on 4th down against the D called, it would be a post pattern with one on one coverage which at the best of times has a much lower rate of success. The bigger reason is the emotional letdown of not converting the play. And a coach has to gauge when it would be an emotional letdown to not got for it.
That is an incredibly bad job by Smith and his O staff and again Matt Ryan. I can't believe he isn't saying to Smith "WTF? I'm not running that play to make the 4th you ^^^^ idiot".
Smith, you stink.
