NFL Week #2 Inside the Numbers Oakland-KC
Unlike LW where the Raiders pretty much controlled the game vs. SD, they got dominated here.
KC 25/11 1st Downs
409 yds (79 plays)/166 (51)
38:39-21:21 Time of Poss
KC's offense will improve over time with Todd Haley.
Cassel wasn't to bad in his debut, except that Michael Huff (who actually looked like a top 10 overall pick here) had 2 INTs.
KC (38/173) outrushes Oakland (25/67)
JaMarcus Russell was terrible the whole game (7 for 24, 99 yds), but did get them down the field for the winning drive.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Houston-Tennessee
Tenn monster day on the ground (26/240)
--Chris Johnson 16/197/2
Houston monster day through the air
--Schaub 25/39 357 4 TD
--Tennessee lack of pass rush killed themselves.
Houston +2 TO
Late in the 3rd, the Jacoby Jones fair catch that he wasn't given a chance to catch and Titans rec what they fought was a fumble, really seemed to take the wind of their sails.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
NE-NY Jets
NYJ held NE to under 300 tot yds
Pats 5/15 3rd D
Brady not sacked, but pressured all day.
Brady 23/47 216 1 INT
Pats 0/3 Red Zone
Welker DNP; former Kent St QB Julian Edelman is the cheaper heir apparent (8 Rec 98 yds). Expect Welker to eventually go by the way of so many other vets, or if they can trade him next yr or two.
Sanchez solid again (14/22 163 TD)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Cincy-GB
Cin 9/14 3rd Down
Cedric Benson has revived his career (29/141).
Palmer 15/23 185 3 TD 2 INT (both to Charles Woodson, including a pick six).
I mentioned LW about GB's OL. This time it wasn't Bartre on the right side, it was Clifton and Colledge on the left side. GB's offense is good, but Aaron Rodgers may not last the season. He was sacked 6 times.
Cincy's Antwan Odom had 5 Sacks! (7 now on the year, Pro Bowl Bound?).
-----------------------------------------------------------------Minny-Detroit
Pretty even game in the stats.
Turnovers (Min +2) the big difference.
Minny LB Chad Greenway had 2 big TO's to et up 2 TD's on very short fields (fumble rec at the Det 27 in the 3rd Qtr, Peterson 27 yd run next play and 36-yd INT return to Det 16 in thr 4th).
-----------------------------------------------------------------
New Orleans-Philly
NO 29/133 Rushing (Mike Bell hurt, Pierre Thomas back next week) vs. Philly 21/85.
NO +3 TO
NO 50.3 Net Punt to PHI 41.6.
PHI only 1-5 in red zone.
Colston 8 Rec 98 yds 2 TD, clearly the #1 Brees option and emerging as a top-tier WR.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Carolina-Atlanta
Carolina 440-371 yd edge
Car offense better.
Delhomme 25/41 308 TD INT (threw the INT with 3 min left in game).
On that play, Fox could've taken the 3 (prob not much difference for win, but he could take points and had all 3 TO's and 2 min warning).
Matt Ryan 21/27 220 3TD iNT
Had all day to throw. Peppers and company brought ZERO pressure for two weeks in a row.
Another TD for Gonzalez (huge in this offense) and Roddy White emerging big time at WR.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
St. L - Wash
Wash 21/14 1st D
Wash 392/70 vs. STL 245/50
Wash 0/5 Red Zone
Jackson solid running for Rams, but only 17 carries (104 yds, TD).
Bulger erratic again.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Arizona-Jacksonville
If you protect Kurt Warner to perfection, he can still pick a defense apart as well as anyone, 24-26 243 2 TD.
Arizona D +2 TO, 4 sacks.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Seattle-SF
Hasselbeck ballsy to try QB bootleg on the goal line late in 2nd, but not that smart and Patrick Willis made him pay.
Frank Gore 16/207/2
That's all you need to know here.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Tampa Bay-Buffalo
Buffalo 25/19 1st D
438/353 yds
Rushing: TB 19/57 vs. Buff 35/218
Marshawn Lynch may have to earn his job back, Fred Jackson 28/163
Sabby Piscitelli 2 forced TO's for Tampa.
TO catches first TD of season.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Cleveland-Denver
Den 25/11 1st D
Den 8/15 3rd Down
Denver 74/449 vs. Cle 56/200
Orton 19/37 263
Rushing: Den 37/186 vs. Cle 21/54
Denver +2 TO
Elvis Dumervil 4 sacks for Denver.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Baltimore-SD
Terrible play calling by Norv at end of 1st H and end of game. Run the ball on 3rd down. If you get stuffed, call Timeout and give yourself time to think of a good 4th Down play call. Ray Lewis had that play dead to rites.
SD 474/311 yd edge.
Rushing: SD 21/53 vs. BAL 32/130
Willis McGahee getting the scoring opps, which is bad news if you have Ray Rice as one of your fantasy RB's (which I do:()
Rivers 25/45 436 yds 2 TD 2 INT
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Pittsburgh-Chicago
Chi +2 TO
Jeff Reed 2 missed FG in 4th Qtr.
Cutler 27/38 236 2 TD. Good bounceback from LW.
Only 1 Pitt sack. Very disappointing pass rush.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
NY Giants-Dallas
Dallas too pass happy. They have one of, if not, the best run game in the league (29/251).
Romo 3 INT and only 4 of his 13 comps to WRs.
Eli 25/38 330 2 TD and proved why he's an elite QB on final drive.
G-men don't miss Burress at all. Manningham is a potential star (10/150/1) and Smith has stepped up big (10/134/1).
G-men +4 TO.
