Just curious here Alf, why is Chan Gailey one of the worst coaches in the NFL?
During Bills training camp, there was a day where a group of fans were booing Trent Edwards. Gailey personally and publically chastised the fans, and then told his players not to sign autographs for the section were these fans were sitting. Gailey then told the media during a press conference, "If you boo one of us, you boo us all...blah, blah, blah." A real coach, like Parcells, would have left the fans alone, and then told the media, "They have a right to boo, we are terrible, we owe Bills fans more than this (some of the most loyal fans in the league despite one of the worst teams in the league), we will get better."
You are correct though that Gailey inherited a team of bad players. But, that doesn't excuse his terrible strategic decisions, i.e., taking the safety and then trying for an "on-side punt", which play doesn't even exist. That decision was an admission that he (Gailey) does not even understand the rules of the NFL game.
Gailey is best suited for a coordinator position, just like Wade Phillips (another former BUF head coach), Gregg Williams (another former BUF head coach), and Mike Mularky (another former BUF head coach). There is a trend developing....
