Non-Offensive TD Outburst

Non-Offensive TD Outburst All data presented here was uncovered on-line with the SDQL. Since the divisional realignment in 2002 there have been 160 weeks of regular season NFL action. In only eleven of them have been more than ten non-offensive TDs. Two of them came in the last three weeks. In weeks 5 and 7 this season the league had eleven non-offensive TDs. This is a big reason why the games have been higher scoring recently. It is not surprising that the OU records of the games in weeks 5 and 7 were 9-5 and 10-4 respectively. What really makes these non-offensive TD numbers impressive is that in weeks 5 and 7 this season, there were only 14 games (four teams had a bye). Most of the other weeks in which there were more than ten non-offensive TDs came in weeks in which all the teams played. The point here is that the average total in week 7 was 41.6 and the average total for the upcoming week is 43.1. This is the highest average weekly OU line this season and the 16th highest (out of 366) in all the regular season weeks since 1989. Note that the bye teams might be contributing reason for this, as both Houston and Indianapolis (as well as the Jets and Lions) were off last week. This week the Falcons, Bears, Browns and Ravens are off. So, are the linesmakers jacking up the OU numbers because of the higher scoring games? Is there an assignable cause for the outburst of non-offensive TDs in weeks 5 and 7? If not, can the bettors capitalize on this by leaning towards the under? What do you think? Prof Meyer
I think guys not looking to head hunt actually keep their eyes on the ball to make interceptions... Lots of pick 6s and picks leaving the ball in the red zone. Will see if it continues next week.
O/U differential- why the games went over This past week, the league engaged in a frenzy of political correctness re: hard hits- and suspension/fine for same. All teams had to watch videos on this topic- and were told calls/penalizations would be aggressively made. This obviously favors the overs going forward (all other factors being equal). Think of it as the feminization of football, and a component of the orgy (war) the politically correct ruling class (and those subservient to them -e.g. the front office of the NFL) is undertaking against excellence, hard work, self sacrifice, risk taking and achievement. Harry Reid must be ecstatic. (although not all of us can enrich ourselves by the absconding of public lands through legislation that we control- like Reid did).

Pick 6s are non-offensive TDs, but picks in the red zone that are not returned will result in offensive TDs. I am inclined to think, esp. if there are mainstream media articles about the increased scoring (maybe I can get Yahoo! to put a package on the homepage about it -- it's definitely newsworthy), that we can get more money on the over and be set up for a 4-10 OU weekend this week.
