Not a good year for me in Contests.......

Not a good year for me in Contests....... South Point, my LVA entry 4-1 last week, t4th 8,333.00 M out of the money (but won a lot in hedge bets last 2 weeks) LeRoys's, 9th place, a nice dinner somewhere.
LeRoys's, 9th place, a nice dinner somewhere.
FTR, I had a slightly better result for the Leroy's pro Challenge. Tied 8th, $819.58 and another entry tied 34th, $94.57. Unfortunately, this doesn't cover the $1250 entry fee for the five entries.
What was the payout on the M first prize? And who won the Hilton>
M should be 70% of seven $100K entries -- $490,000. Nice. Kinda like winning the Hilton back-to-back without the clout.
And who won the Hilton?
I don't know but they should start a forum.
Does anyone have the totals from the M? I would be interested to know if these hundred thousand dollar gamblers all managed to beat the spread. Maybe just checking the first 10 weeks or so would be the way to check this as there may have been contrarian picks once someone got behind? Thoughts anyone?
It's not a very good measure of one's ability to beat the spread. The card offers lines where you can only really take one side on some. Taking what the card offers is a big part of the strategy. Even if you like a team a lot it would not be wise to use -3.5 when the market is a weak 3 and that happens all the time.
The M contest was kind of silly. Only 7 enties and all but one were at least somewhat sharp. So many weeks all 6 "sharp" entries would be the same on at least 3 of the picks, Making it hard for anyone to move around significantly in the standings in a normal week. Of course the last couple weeks get interesting. A few things need to change next year: 1) Lower entry fee to get at least a couple dozen entries. I think 50k might work is there is significant time to recruit signups. 2) Change policy about not releasing who everyone is on until just before kickoff to something more fair. With such big prizes entries are going to be looking to hedge out of big positions in late weeks. 3) Change turn in day so they dont fall on X-mas Eve and NYE. 4) Have a better tiebreaker. Recent performance alone should not determine the outcome for a year of work. Perhaps comparing records of weeks 1,5,9 and 13. Or maybe even a Wild-Card weekend showdown.
Does anyone know if there is an NFL contest where you can choose the totals on the games??
