The Official Ohio State Rose Bowl big ten sucks thread

FullValue, a lot of what you say is pretty accurate. I could debate a lot of things but not necessary. What I will say is there is no way that Tressel is an average coach? He is a great defensive coach. What was his record at the 1AA school he was at? He is not exciting and is conservatice but he knows how to win. Average coach?? What does that make almost every coach in the country that finishes second and 3rd most of the time in their conference? There is an entire country of below average coaches. They have a lot of turnover and yet continue to win. Tressell does a great job. He is a great coach. How many team could go into Penn State and beat them like that 24-7? How many? You Ohio State people are spoiled rotten. What is his record in the Big 10 the last 5 years? How many Big 10 Titles does he have?
hey bud. i appreciate your thoughts. fun debate and you are right...the buckeye nation is spoiled, as are the sooner nation, longhorn nation, trojan nation etc. big bucks in college sports have spoiled all of us rotten and as competitors, at least me as a competitor, I expect my team to be flawless and the absolute best. you are correct in your statement that the majority of the country is full of average coaches. for 4 years I traveled the south and western portion of the US and coaches like Leech, Gundy, Reilly, etc I consider to be solid coaches and recruiters. Have you ever been to Lubbock? Stillwater? I assure you they are not Columbus Ohio let alone Gainesville or Los Angeles. These great coaches we all mention have major advantages. Think Urb has it easier at FLA or was it easier to get a blue chipper to eneter Morman country or worse yet northwest ohio. Tressel did an amazing job at 1AA Youngstown State but every year the competition would disappear and enter into 1A so it became a little easier for the Penguins to run deep into the playoffs in that division. By disapprear I mean the powerhouse in 1AA for a while was Reno (Wolfpack) they left and went 1A, same with YSU's annual nemisis Marshall. Bottom line for me is good coach...yes. great coach...TBD
Oregon opens -10, closes -14 :)
Jefff... I will take OSU vs. Oregon in the Rose Bowl +14 1/1/10 for the max. Let me know your limit. :D
I read yesterday where Boise send out lots of invitations to play them...in which Boise will travel to their stadium to play, and that team does not have to return that favor. There have been no takers!
really? i mean, i can see it. but no takers is a little surprising. i could see them turning down a home and home. but Boise traveling there only is a little surprising. Boise always seems to have a decent Pac 10 team on their schedule and next year I think they travel to VTech. They are always lookin for a good team to play. The BCS would be better off by a) creating a new bowl in the Jerry Jones Dome b) moving Boise to MWC c) adding MWC champ and another at large to the BCS

If you're referring to the package on Yahoo!'s home page Saturday about Boise St., I was the copy editor for it :) Why would a major program want to play Boise St., even at home? The only possible outcomes are neutral and bad.
johnny gun is right on about tressel. he is a terrific coach. you may not like his style of football. but if you take a big picture view (wins, not YOUR personal football strategy) , he wins using his philosophy--wins a lot. his style is the overriding factor at osu and was at ysu. ysu was a nothing before tressel. it's a 3 block long urban campus with mostly commuter students and a ONE SIDED stadium--no ez and a couple of high school stands on the visitors side. recruit to that, go ahead..... and a losing history. beat nevada, marshall, boise, and "air mcnair" . tressel believes in defense and field position. when i first heard him say on a show that the MOST IMPORTANT PLAY in football is a PUNT, i thought he was pulling my chain. he's not---that's his style. guys that coach like that are rarely going to be flashy winners, like the popular offensive guys. his style pervades the program, but i think pryor is a big step for him in the direction of accepting the way things are going in cfb. pryor may or may not develop, but the next guy will for sure. the punt is the most important play in football. i think he is literally unique in 1-a.
Boise would be lucky to score 2 TDs on Ohio State. Bucks would be favored by at least 7 and it would not be close.
I would love Boise +7 vs Ohio Fate. LOVE it.
Tressel and Ohio State are going for the FIFTH STRAIGHT Big 10 Title. How many other teams right now have won that or more in a row? Consistency is another true measure of greatness.
outright or shared big ten titles? doesnt pete carroll and usc have a pretty good run going in the pac 10? i just think the conference is so weak that the bucks have been the benefactors of poor competition. not taking anything away from them but head to head they are not as good as the big 12, sec, acc or pac 10 imo. Mind you il probably be at the rose bowl supporting this team vs whoever they play...i guess i just want what everyone else wants...a 1 loss season and paying for the national titel every year. ill never get it but never hurts to set the bar high as a fan
