Well, he specifically said, morals aside.
Agreed.
As much as it pains me to say this, the correct answer is to give the money back. Something to do with Karma, or the Golden Rule, or some other BS. Besides, you might get caught.
----------------------------------------------------------------
I'd give them the money back and ask them for a voucher for dinner - call it even.
Besides, you might get caught.
Get caught doing what?

while were all confessing I have to tell you my story, was betting the races at los alamitos years ago, go to the kitchen get some food, a few hours later check my bodog balance and realize its off, you won't believe what happened you see I played the horses all the time and my daughter has been on my lap since she could walk, she loves her daddy, at the time I didn't know it but she was learning how to bet when I went to the kitchen I just minimized the screen, well she got up there and proceded to bet the last two races at Cal-Expo taking every horse in the race and betting the max 500.00, I call the next day and explained the situation and he said "come on you can't come up with something better than that" I said yes I can but I'm telling you the truth, I said check betting patterns which he did and come back and said they would split it with me, I was very happy to get half after all a bet is a bet
How? (I'm not saying it isn't, just wondering how it's different.)
joelshitshow hits the nail on the head. unless its insanely egregious, a table game dealer isn't getting fired. a sports clerk very well might. while there are definately a few people i'd love to see get canned they are few and far between.
On the given facts, I would think the book could isolate the mistake by reviewing the camera. If this was the only error the seller made that shift, and thus the amount of the overage is easily discernible (from his opening bank to his close, then of course the Book can demand repayment. If repayment is refused, then as with any debt in life, the Book needs to decide if going to Court is worth the time and trouble. If proveable per above, though, the mistake could and would be rectified in an court action.
Found out the end result. The guy went back to the book, told the manager and all was settled up. The employee had been suspended, not fired. Had the money not been returned, an investigation would have been launched. Apparently this happened at the Plaza before for $10k and the guy realized it when they overpaid. They followed him to his car, took his license plate number down, tracked him to Barstow Cali and sent a letter threatening him with charges of the crime of knowingly accepting an overpayment. I asked to keep morals out of it because the protocol is simply fascinating to me. If it were the other way around, would the cameras have conveniently deleted the footage?
I believe you can legally walk away with the money, especially if all they have is a black and white video tape of you. I had this happen to me once at Binions. I honestly did not realize it, and came in the next week and the ticket writer/supervisor said "we need to talk." Turns out they canned the ticket writer, and they were going to ban me unless I paid them (it was $1,000). I asked to speak with a supervisor and spoke with one, and asked if they could provide video proof that I was actually overpaid, and he said yes. I believed him, and paid back the $1,000. He praised me for my high morals and said most people wouldn't do that. Notice he also didn't say anything about pressing charges. 2 days later they shut me out of a bet and moved the line on me. I was furious. If it didn't possibly cost someone their job, I would take every overpay they give me.
Who gives a fuck about people who work in casinos? I took a multi-thousand dollar mispay at a cage once and the place was a tiny 7 table dump cardroom. The more important question is whether or not it will cost you more EV to take the mispay. In this case I was in a tiny town in Eastern WA and was getting the fuck out of dodge anyway. So be it.
