Pats Jerod Mayo May Play Today DENVER - Jerod Mayo’s bag was packed, knee brace and all.
The Patriots [team stats] linebacker had everything with him necessary to make his return from a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. The Pats confirmed Mayo accompanied the team out west yesterday and will be a gametime decision for today’s 4:15 p.m. date with the undefeated Broncos at Invesco Field.
The reigning defensive rookie of the year injured his knee in the season opener against Buffalo, and was slated to return within six weeks. He’s accelerated the timetable.
In his absence, the defense has stood tall. Gary Guyton took Mayo’s place in the middle, and the unit is seventh in the NFL in total defense, giving up 287.5 yards per game.
Mayo returned to practice on Oct. 2 and has worked out on a limited basis since. He has declined interviews, but did respond last Monday when asked when he would return.
“Soon,” Mayo said.
