Poker Room Rates - LV

Poker Room Rates - LV I'm curious as to how to get a poker room rate for hotels at the strip. Do you contact the poker room to arrange something? Do you have to play first, and then get your room reduction later? Or can you arrange a price first, in the hopes of the hotel that you will stay there and live up to the requirment, i.e., 4 hours of play a day, etc? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Calling a single poker room in Vegas would have saved us all the time reading this thread. You call the hotel, get a poker room rate (usually set by the hotel) and then fulfill the number of required hours per day to receive that discount. Since it's usually just $20-$30 cheaper for 4-7 hours of play, I'd suggest you just ignore the poker room rate and not worry about filling a daily quota of play. Rooms are really cheap in Vegas right now anyway.
Thank you, and i'm sorry for making your eyes work hard today. [QUOTE=Yappy Dave;3466]Calling a single poker room in Vegas would have saved us all the time reading this thread. At least before the Mirage had a decent poker rate, although if the goal is to get a good rate, perhaps Travelaxe is the way to go.

Wynn has 199 weekends and 129 weekdays for 6 hrs of play. Good value for high end place. You also get the added bonus of being there to hammer their 2nd half lines.
People should realize that there are huge amounts of comps and perks and stuff to be found in poker rooms. However, just as poker is a social game, getting comps from poker palaces is a social game, too. So, mrbowling300, in your case, try beginning by calling the poker rooms in 3 or 4 Strip casinos that you find acceptable. Try to call at the time of day when you intend to play, more or less, so you will be talking to a supervisor who will actually be there when you are playing. Call during a time of day when the supervisor is probably not too busy. For instance, 9 pm Friday night is bad, while 10 am Thursday is probably good. Also, be friendly and nice when you call. Say stuff like 'good morning' and 'please and thank you' and crap like that. Realize that poker room management has a lot of mean, nasty, smelly, ugly, poker types in their faces all day long so a little pleasantness goes a long way. When you call, they may or may not give you a rate for several hours of play. If you don't find it acceptable, just call somewhere else. The most important point in extracting comps from the poker room is this, however. You need to find a discrete way to give the appropriate supervisor a gratuity. Many are forbidden to accept tokes, but almost all take them under the table and are quite grateful and will repay you several times over for your gift. A folded up $20 hidden in a handshake, a sports bet, even a roast beef sandwich can go a long way, even in the carpet joints. Should they refuse your offer, they are still going to like you a lot better than the 100s of stiffs they see every day who offer them nothing. So, in short...Call, be nice, get a rate, give a present and make friends with management, then try to hit them up for free food and ask for an even better rate than you got on the phone now that they know you. Also, another huge advantage of being a friend of the house is you can discretely ask to be seated at a table that is 'less tough'. They may not look like it, but the supervisors watch these games like hawks and can easily sit you at the softest seat in the house if they like you. Don't expect too much if this is your first attempt at comp hustling the poker room. However, if you are nice and give them stuff, they will remember you and your next trip will be that much easier. Over the years, I have extracted a huge amount of comps, perks, valuable info, and stuff from poker rooms by doing little more than what has been mentioned above.
I spent much of the middle part of this decade in the poker room at Harrah's Reno benefiting from such a strategy. There are still a few there who remember me on sight when I stop by, but the room has really slowed down recently, so I don't visit as often. The only thing I would add is to be nice to the dealers. Be ready to act in turn, but don't act out of turn. Have your blinds ready when it's your turn to be on the blind. Don't take sides in a debate about a hand, especially if you aren't in the hand. Let the dealer do it, and she will call the floor if need be. And of course you're toking the dealers when you win a hand. All the dealers talk, both to each other and to the floor. All the floor hears is complaining from the dealers, so you don't want to be lumped in with that. If you're just visiting but not staying, Mirage gives a $15 comp with 8 hours of play. You can take two days to do it, but if you get in right before a shift change, you can usually get the comp after about four or five hours. They're pretty loose with the comps there if you aren't an ass about it. And the $15 covers lunch in the buffet, which is pretty fancy for a buffet. ($15 used to be for four hours of play. Hustling a comp after a couple hours used to be a breeze.)
This thread is an abortion. Go to Venetian/Palazzo, find a 9/6 jacks or better VP machine. Feed through 3k in coin in, lose about 14 bucks in EV, go up to the Player's desk and say you would like to use your thousand points for a comp'd room. Bam.
With that much VP play at the Venetian you should certainly insist that Mr. Las Vegas, The Fabulous Wayne Newton, be assigned to the free room as personal butler and Celine Dion be your housekeeper/slavegirl. 1000 points should also entitle you to have Sheldon Adelson's head on a silver platter next to your complimentary fruit basket.
