Rules question.... D2 playoffs

Rules question.... D2 playoffs Sorry for the kind of off topic post, but had a converstation with friends over this ruling. 4th and 10 for App State.. pass thrown for 10 yards reciever jumps high and catches the ball while off the ground right at the first down marker.. he is driven back about 2 yards short of first down and that's his first contact with the ground. Is forward progress supposed to be given where he had the ball in mid air, or where the ball is when his foot lands and he officially has the catch? I said it should be ruled where he lands, just like a bobbled ball. My friend said forward progress was correct call at the first down marker. Not sure...

I believe the only time it would be back futher is when the receiver actually takes himself back there without being forced there by the other teams player.
