SF/NYG weather

SF/NYG weather The local weather is a specialty of mine. What this information means, that's where your help is needed: We're getting three storms after six weeks of almost no rain at all. The second one hits tonight. The third one hits around 5 p.m. Sunday, which should be halftime. This is also when the sun goes down. The first half should be cloudy and breezy, and the field should be in good shape, because it won't have rained significantly for about 30 hours. The second half will only be lit by stadium lighting, it will be windier (20 mph) and the rain will slowly increase over time. It will be heaviest at the end of the fourth quarter, although at that time it should only be a moderate rain. If the game goes into overtime, the rain could turn heavy. For what it's worth, I don't think the 49ers have played in the rain all year.
great insight... pls keep us updated
Wayyyyyyyy too early to depend on the hour-by-hour to be this accurate. But thanks for the heads up. Definitely something to watch.
I agree, RWS. What hour-by-hour doesn't tell you is when the front passes through. At this time, it still appears that the front will pass through after the game ends. That just means light rain will start right before kickoff. It will be moderate in the second half. Wind will be less of a factor. I don't know how storms work elsewhere, but pre/post-frontal weather is very different here. What's interesting is that ESPN/NFLN etc are talking about rain a lot, and how the field will be messed up. I think it will be overanalyzed. The field will probably be fine, even in the second half. There haven't been any big weather games lately, so people are excited for anything. I know I was disappointed at the lack of snow games this season. Also, it's already stopped raining from the last storm, and it won't start again until tomorrow afternoon. That means they can leave the field uncovered all day and night.

any updates joel??
Light rain the whole game. Rain will not be a factor, even in overtime. That stadium lighting will affect the field of play, even at kickoff is a bigger deal.
What about wind?
Bay Area storms aren't usually windy until the front passes through. There won't be no wind, but it will be typical for Candlestick Park (10-15 mph).
Per the San Jose Mercury News, the grass has been on the field since before the 19 December game versus Pittsburgh. Until yesterday, there had been less than a quarter inch of rainfall. Although 1.2 inches fell in SF yesterday, the field was covered with a tarp. ESPN just did a segment showing them pumping water out, etc. This whole thing is overblown because we haven't had any weather games in the NFL during the playoffs, as well as because ESPN needs to fill three hours of pregame activity.
