Shooter's Week #2 CFB
This is my favorite play of the week Shooter. I have SMU ahead of Rice also and SMU is as talented as UAB imo. Both defenses are a wash. This number should really be -7 imo at most.
so then why did SMU struggle with SFA? they were losing to them going to the 4th quarter. SFA had 6 turnovers to SMU's 2. SFA outyarded them by 100 is SFA really really good? or is SMU going to get better this week? i try not to put too much stock into week 1 activities. but SMU was poor last year and their first game doesnt indicate they've improved a whole lot. i can agree this number is higher than it should be considering Rice's ineptitude in the red zone in the first half costing them 10-14 points that would have made the game a lot closer. But I'm missing the part where SMU is a talented team...unless of course SFA should really be division 1A
Don't get me wrong. SMU is not that good, but I don't think UAB, albeit improved, laying 12 is justifiable here. We tend too put too much stock in Week 1. Yes, SMU was losing to SFA going into the 4th, but I did see some good things. SMU actually has a running game with this new Miami FL transfer. Plus, they have had a year to learn June Jones's offense. However, It's more of a play on the number, then a play b/c of SMU.
Add for Friday night: 303/304 Colorado/Toledo UNDER 55' Toledo's defense is terrible, but I think Colorado is still working out the kinks in their offense. I expect better defense on both sides with two teams in a "must-win" situation. With Cody Hawkins's struggles, I expect Colorado to run the ball a lot. GL

I should've hedged b/c I liked the halftime over, but I played it conservative and it bit me. Should've known Toledo would return to form under that crappy Ok State Def Coord, who is now their head coach. Toledo played the prevent way too early. I hope they lose now. This Toledo coach doesn't impress me at all. No def intensity at all.

Late night obscure game stuff. Greek, CRIS and Bookmaker have lines on these FBS vs. FCS matchups. 411 Morgan State (+27) 411/412 Morgan State/Akron UN 51 This is Akron's first game in their new on-campus Infocision Stadium. Sometimes teams opening new facilities come out too pumped up and make mistakes. That's what I bank on here. Akron held their own and played dead-even with Penn St in the 2nd h in Happy Valley. PSU had 5 drives in Akron territory though and came away with nothing in the 2nd. Morgan State was 6-6 in FCS play LY. They actually had the #1 Defense in all of FCS (Div-IAA) LY (213.4 ypg). 14 starters back. Their big gun is Sr RB Devan James (1337 yds LY). Probably the most interesting storyline is the return of Morgan QB Carlton Jackson, who was the co-starter with current Akron QB Chris Jacquemain in 2007. From the Akron Beacon Journal: https://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/58186512.html Jackson is a running and throwing QB. I think Akron may come in a little too hyped for their new stadium. Plus, they just played Penn St on the road and have Big 10 Indiana coming into their stadium and are probably looking ahead to that. They lost at Indiana in 07' 41-24, but the game was more competitive than that score. IU got a late score for the cover. I think Morgan, although outmanned, can hang in here. They know their QB transferred from this school b/c of losing his starting job and will play hard for him. Akron is also a patient, move the chains offense and not a quick strike team. The last time I bet this school was when they went into highly-ranked UConn for the Preseason NIT and hung within single-digits the whole game in Todd Bozeman's debut. Maybe I'll dig up 1-2 more of these. GL
415 Weber State (+14') Weber gets Colo St off their HUGE win at Colorado and on a shorter week. Colo St was off a loss LY to CU and played Sacramento St (-24) in the home opener and baely escaped 23-20. In 07', Ga Southern took them to the wire, losing by 8 (that was late in the year though). Weber lost LW at Wyoming, 29-22. Their QB Cam Higgins, who is actually pretty good, threw 5 picks and the team had 11 penalties. He also had 300+ yds and 3 TD passes. Weber is coached by Ron McBride, the former Utah Utes Head Coach. They get up for the games against FBS schools and covered at Hawaii LY. Colo St has a game with Nevada at home and then at BYU on deck. Letdown spot here. Weber will give the max effort. They hung within 7 at Wyoming and I don't rate Colo St that much better than the boys from Laramie. Here's some reading material from the Deseret News on the game: https://www.deseretnews.com/article/705329530/Weber-State-football-Team-has-another-tough-test-at-Colorado-State.html?linkTrack=rss-38 https://www.deseretnews.com/article/705328799/Weber-State-football-Higgins-plans-to-play-smarter-this-week-at-CSU.html?linkTrack=rss-38 GL
421/422 James Madison/Maryland UNDER 50' 422 Maryland (-10) Two teams from the CAA (JMU's conference) won on the road at ACC schools LW. Add to the fact that Maryland got crushed at Cal LW and that's why the line is this low. JMU was 12-2 LY and is #6 in the FCS poll. However, their AA QB and CAA POY Rodney Landers is gone. They have 2 QB's battling for the job in their first road starts. In addition, Maryland has a new DC Don Brown, who was the HC at UMass from 04'-08'. His teams were top 20 in defense repeatedly and played in the FCS title game in 06'. UMass is in JMU's conference and Brown has seen this team a lot so the defense will be prepared for what the Dukes do on offense. I think the Fridge will get the Terps focused here and get that beatdown out of their minds. They have 4 straight home games now and all are winnable (JMU, Middle Tenn in a revenge spot, Rutgers and Clemson). I expect a big effort out of the Terps here. https://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/sports/local_other/article/TERP12_20090911-212805/292219/ https://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/sports/college/college_football/article/JMFB10_20090909-215204/291766/ https://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/sports/college/college_football/article/JMUP03_20090902-190609/290081/
Go to bed shooter... Long day of sweating tomorrow. Good luck.
419 Jacksonville St (+34) J-Ville St was able to hang with 20 at Ga Tech and that was without former LSU and current JSU QB Ryan Perrilloux who was suspended for one game. FSU is playing their 2nd game in 5 days and had a road trip to Provo and BYU next week. FSU's secondary is of major concern. Jacory Harris, who probably is just slighly less talented than Perrilloux, threw for 386 on the Noles. Jax St should give their max effort here. I think the Noles come out flat early and J-Ville St hangs around. https://www.gadsdentimes.com/article/20090911/news/909129994&tc=yahoo GL
Add: 329/330 UCLA/Tennessee UNDER 46' (-108) Two good defensive clubs. UCLA will look to establish the run with RS Fr Kevin Prince making his first start. I also think Monte Kiffin's defense is a little better than people may expect. Crompton still turnover and drive-killer prone. GL
