A sign the 49ers have a good head coach

A sign the 49ers have a good head coach With a 13-6 lead and 4th and 12 deep in their own territory with 8 seconds and a time out left, the 49ers take the delay of game penalty and THEN take their last time out. Now it's 4th and 17. The punter runs around for six seconds before running out of the end zone. Now they get a free kick (which can't be blocked) from the 20 with only two seconds left. This doesn't even consider the element of confusion the Bengals have, who have the free kick sent to an up man who runs up the middle without a clue. Why not call time out with the play clock at one? Maybe the extra second means something. (3 is 50% more than 2, after all.) Maybe it's psychology to make the Bengals confused. Appreciate others' analysis on this coaching decision.
Sorry but I didnt see it and Im a bit confused. It sounds like the clock was stopped due to the delay of game with 8 seconds left. Not sure how they could have manipulated the clock with the TO when it was stopped. Sorry I have read it three times and maybe Im just being slow.
The third down play ended at :48. Rather than call time out at :09, they took the delay of game at :08. In either case, Andy Lee running around with the ball for six seconds wouldn't have changed. So is the difference between :03 and :02 left that crucial? I don't see how the penalty helped in terms of field position. If they had called it at :09, they would have had five more yards for him to run around, perhaps taking all nine seconds off the clock. I don't know.
I was watching without the benefit of sound. It looked like an innovative way to handle the end of the game and I'm sure bettors who were on the over in the second half appreciated the play. It is better than the punt. Actually, I was thinking while watching part of the game that Harbaugh hasn't been so fantastic. I suppose he inherited Smith and this inept offense but it is a bore and I would have thought Harbaugh would have made more of an impact on Smith and what they're doing. They are 2-1 but it is an awfully weak 2-1. But of course it is very early and with their front 7 on D I think they'll be in a lot of football games.

Didn't Harbaugh butcher something in week 1 or 2? I thought Gailey of the Bills was best game manager. Attacking to get points at the very end of the first half instead of sitting on it deep in his own territory. Running out the clock at end of game to kick the field goal.

New England called a time out while play was stopped after the review for some reason, and that left them with one left. That meant, the Bills could run the clock down to 14 seconds and then kick the field goal. New England then had a penalty, allowing the Bills to run the clock all the way down. Anyway, didn't think that took a lot of thought. Bills got a break that the guy didn't score originally. That kept the ball out of Brady's hands.
Okla State did the same thing up 3 on Saturday. The only thing I didn't like was what if you fumble... They had to kill 5 seconds. My take is you drop back and after 3 seconds throw it as far as you can... Game over, no chance of getting tackled or fumbling. In any case, both are better than punting which is what most coaches do.
If you throw it deep, it could be intercepted, but which nonzero probability is higher? If you throw it deep and out of bounds, but you're still in the pocket, it's intentional grounding (and a safety?), but so what, right? Game can end on an OFFENSIVE penalty just not a defensive one. So there are a lot of ways to approach the situation, it seems. The only 13-8 final in NFL history, BTW.

At least in NCAA, remember Colt Mccoy/Neb. 13-8 only time. That is interesting.
