SportsMemo error. Tim? Fezzik?
I would agree with lvmike32 and add that at least sportsmemo is here and making an effort to get it right. This should not be lost on anyone. My two cents is that if a 2-unit mistake causes you to lose sleep at night, then your bankroll is too small, or your unit size is too large.
Completely disagree. Their mistake has cost their clients money. They are offering to do nothing about it except refund future service. Terrible customer service in my opinion. Offer someone else on their staff's selections for free for a period of time. That's the only viable solution in my opinion. Its not as if their clients were not harmed here. And who are you to judge someone's bankroll or unit size? The fact is, some clients may be small bettors and others large. Either way, some or many lost money, too hard to tell, because of a clerical error and late correction. To say "I have no right answer here other than to apologize and to let clients know that this will not happen again." Is a complete joke. The "right" answer is what has been mentioned here and in my post. Give these people free service from a handicapper of their choice. Apologizing and saying it won't happen again is bad customer service.

I also dont know how sportsmemo can really count that as a win in the grading process because of their fuckup. There wasn't 1 client that ONLY bet Over 141. I also doubt that most got off as smooth as the way you put it, plus they are still losing vig on the fuck up side of the bet.
Certainly should not count as a win in the record keeping. Should count as 1-1 with loss of vig. Basically, Helmut released U140 or whatever and then O140 (prob more like 141 or 142). Anyways, it went over.. 1-1 (- the vig) I dont think there's any need to refund money - Maybe refund him the vig. He said he bet $2000. IF was up to him whether or not to bet the other side when it was released at whatever number it was at. I'd refund him $200 and let him keep the service or give him a full refund and let him leave..
Please note that a final decision has not yet been made. I agree that what has been done so far is insufficient.

I think this is a one time isolated incident and what Helmut had done, or will do in the future, doesn't matter. A sports service is not going to give those clients who were screwed, financial compensation, which is why a few extra weeks of service thrown it at the end of their supscription, should, for the most part, be fair and hopefully make everyone happy.
I'm not sure what the issue is here... You just count it as two picks. He made one play at U140 and another at O142 or whatever. No big deal.
sean, not sure as I wasn't involved but one poster said it was U140 and O147 spread I think - it steamed quickly so if you try to get off you looking at a 6/7 point middle for losing both. so they didn't try. But I wasn't involved - just what one poster said his situation was.
Also caught in U140 I was another person who was caught in the U140 also for a $2100 swing. It was initially sent correctly as O140 by email but was wrong on the site where I got the pick. By the time I caught the email correction, it was too late. I emailed them before tipoff to ask if they would have taken O146 but I did not hear back. I chose not to do so and ended up losing $1100. As I explained to Marty when I spoke to him the next day,"Sending out a correction on a college basket total 11 minutes after the fact is the equivilant of saying you made an error in an NFL game 10 minutes after it starts. There aren't a lot of good options. He apoligized for no one responding to my email and agreed that O146 should not have been played. This also happened once last year and just should not happen if you are paying for a service. I also thought there should be some compensation simply because if there are no financial consequences on their end for a colossal FU, then its more likely to happen again. This was a civil conversation and we left it that we would talk at the end of the season for a possible adjustment.
I'm sorry this happened, but this is an amazing discussion and I'm sure many of these suggestions will be considered. As joelshitshow points out, no final decision has been made, so I'd hold off on the condemnatory conclusions for now. What Sportsmemo does will surely be based on what they think is necessary from a business standpoint and the customers here will then react accordingly. I have two initial thoughts. First, there should be a written policy covering this in the future. Formulating policies to cover all contingencies before the fact is nearly impossible, but rules can be put in place subsequently. Second, how do you handle a mistake when working with any partner? In my history, it's been understood going in that the consequences of an honest mistake -- misplacing funds, missing a post time, betting a wrong side -- will be split equally by all involved. I understand that this situation is different in that you have paid for the service and a further adjustment is probably called for. But it's the nature of this business that mishaps are likely to occur and that should be factored into the initial decision to partner in the first place.
I can see subscribers being upset. The interesting this is, Helmut has been so good that even with the mistake no one wants the refund to leave. If I were running the site, I'd offer a bit more - maybe $500 towards your next purchase or something, but bottom line, Helmut is good enough that Sportsmemo can really do nothing and not worry about it. I don't see many of you leaving.
