Take a break.....a couple of Bob Stupak stories.... As you know, Bob Stupak recently passed away. My buddy's brother was a private plane pilot, who encountered Stupak a few times...I thought I'd share with the board a couple of Stupak stories that he told me: "I flew him several times in the mid-90's. He usually flew with his girlfriend. As a sidenote, he once had a hooker on a certain flight (his girlfriend was not on that flight). Bob was a cigar smoker. He had one lit that day, and he was getting a blowjob from the hooker. He raised his cigar (probably from the excitement at the time) and burnt a hole in the headliner of the aircraft and had to pay to replace it. That was an expensive BJ!" "Regarding the "large super bowl bet"......He was the first person to wager 1 mil on the super bowl (at a Vegas book).Little Caesars took the action of course. The owner, Gene Mayday (an original Detroiter) used to post a sign out front that said "Limit: 1 Million...if you need more, just ask". At the time, the ticket writing machine could only take 999,999.99 worth of action, so his bet was printed on 2 tickets. Stupak, being a master at publicity and negotiation, worked over Mayday to lower the vig to 5%. A copy of those tickets was posted in a glass-covered bulletin board at Little Ceasar's. The top ticket was for $999,000.00 and the bottom ticket was for $51,000.00. Rumor had it that after he made he bet, he laid it off all over town at various other books. The game? It was the 49ers-Bengals in 1989. Stupak took Cincy +7. If you remember, it took a last-minute Joe Montana drive for the 49ers to win the game with 39 seconds left. The 49ers won 20-16, but the Bengals covered."
not a story, per se, but.........bob was from pittsburgh. i used to play poker with a few guys that shot craps at his dad's game. his dads game was BIG, and allegedy where bob got the money to start
There was a TV show I saw once about Stupak that at one point had him playing a heads up match against a former WSOP ME champion, maybe Russ Hamilton. The way it played out, I strongly suspected it was a for-the-cameras arrangement, for matchsticks. There didn't seem to be any real tension to it. Just, a PR stunt. Maybe the famous football bet you're talking about is in the same category. Stupak approaches Maday saying hey, let's get us some publicity. No need to lay it off then, if it was all only for show anyway.
well, i don't know if it was a stunt or not, but it goes to show you the importance of luck in gambling. stupak bet a team that DID NOT SCORE AN OFFENSIVE TOUCHDOWN and won his bet. cincy's only td was a krtd. assuming he was a bettor of fb on a smaller scale before and after, if he was 40% lifetime, he was still a winner, unles he was betting a lot on the others.

I dropped off a man at Vegas World (owned by Bob Stupak) in my taxi in the early 80's. He said he was going to a meeting with Bob. I told him a few of the more interesting Bob Stupak stories including the one about Vegas World paying cabbies $2 to drop off their fares at his place. An hour or so later the dispatcher came over the radio, "Drivers, I just had a call from Bob Stupak. If you can't say anything good about Vegas World, don't say anything at all!" Lucky the guy didn't give Bob my name or cab number.
