Taking a shot at going pro?

Taking a shot at going pro? First of all, this is a thread to talk about some of the pros and cons of going pro and being a professional gambler. Personally, I already make between 25-30k per year coaching soccer. I'm only 24 yrs old just got out of college and coaching is my only job. Financially I don't have a big enough bankroll yet, but I would not need to make all of my income betting like most do. I could do both. The big issue here is Vegas or not. I don't want to move to Vegas, so is there enough stability offshore for me to be safe? I'd like to hear some thoughts on the issue.
yes it is stable if you stay with some of the big boys... Cris, the greek for football & hoops..... 5 dimes , ABC, Bet Jamaica .. baseball matchbook for all sports...
Get a real job You are only 24 Betting for a living is much harder than you think Bet sports as a side business
Agreed, only if it were so easy to jump head-first into becoming a professional gambler. I'm of the belief that you have to do a lot of losing before you can become a winner. All of the professionals I have spoken with (which is like three lol) have said they endured a series of failures before reaching some semblance of stability. I'd rethink things if I were you.

As someone who has been been a fairly low-rolling pro bettor for many years now and lives nowhere near Vegas, I can definitely attest to the fact that you can still do it all offshore as long as you're well-versed in the specifics of offshore betting... like which books to trust, how you'll deposit/withdraw, paying taxes, etc. The decision to turn pro itself is for you to decide and doesn't have a yes or no answer, so I'll leave that debate alone. However, I will say that bankroll/income issues aside, if you enjoy coaching soccer, keeping that job sounds like a wise move. I have a tiny bit of additional income, but more importantly, a supportive wife with a 'normal' (albeit underpaid) career, and it's certainly nice to know that those paychecks are coming during downswings, especially when you're not a large, wildly successful bettor. GL with your decision.
With the turmoil offshore and initiatives in Delaware, the gambling world is changing. You should turn pro fast before the window of opportunity closes. Tell your boss to fuck off tomorrow. Also, shave your head and get a big scalp tatoo. That will preclude most legitimate jobs, and reinforce your committment when things get tough. Screw Vegas, it's hot and cheap. Move someplace expensive like Manhattan or Honolulu. Report back when you have done this so we can officially certify you as a pro. I wasn't aware soccer coaching is an all-consuming job that prevents any betting. You could bet part-time. The drawback is that merely declaring you are a pro will increase results by 10%. Although he hasn't hosted a positive record for four seasons, Goats is one of the few SSB hosts with a positive lifetime host record. Also, you might like Iceman's blog https://www.sportsbettingforaliving.com/. I don't understand why he moved to Vegas to bet offshore.
Hey, I actually had a positive record last year at least, although of course I fired myself as a host and posted in the free forum. Good management by me, lol. If he doesn't want to go the scalp tatoo route, he could become an anti-social recluse as a result of gambling from his living room for the past 8 years... not that I would know anything about that.
I forgot to mention I live in Delaware which will help if they can get the betting going. Actually live just 10 mins from Del Park.
I would play it as a profitable hobby until you can build a significant bankroll. "Significant" being the key word -- without it, you will not be able to take advantage of enough opportunities to make it as easily. Plus, you will need more/want more security in the coming years -- a larger bankroll can provide some of that.
I was a pro poker player for most of my life except for about 15 years where I had to get a job off and on to build up my bankroll. It was like being on a roller coaster and cost me my first marriage, the problem being was when I had a bad month the bills still needed to be paid and that would put a big drain on the bankroll. My advice to you is keep your job and gamble on the side especially if you are sports betting,I am sure you won't need to put in near the time I had to playing poker every day of the week where it was impossible to have a job and be able to play every day.The thing I liked most about it was the free time to do what you wished with and not having to show up at a job you hated every day at 7:00 AM.Bottom line KEEP YOUR JOB
