I was a pro poker player for most of my life except for about 15 years where I had to get a job off and on to build up my bankroll. It was like being on a roller coaster and cost me my first marriage, the problem being was when I had a bad month the bills still needed to be paid and that would put a big drain on the bankroll. My advice to you is keep your job and gamble on the side especially if you are sports betting,I am sure you won't need to put in near the time I had to playing poker every day of the week where it was impossible to have a job and be able to play every day.The thing I liked most about it was the free time to do what you wished with and not having to show up at a job you hated every day at 7:00 AM.Bottom line KEEP YOUR JOB
This brings up a good point that I (and many others) always considered as basic strategy advice for becoming a pro gambler. Make sure you have savings/outside income to cover your bills for at least 6-months so that your BR remains your BR and serves no other purpose. If you have to take bill money out of your BR each month, that's not really a pure BR. Your BR should be earmarked for nothing but gambling, especially when starting out. Justin, if you enjoy coaching and can still do most of the betting you want to do anyway while coaching, doing both seems like a no-brainer. Pro, semi-pro, supplemental income, who cares what you name your gambling endeavors? The important thing is that you're profitable, comfortable, and happy in your worklife... and of course in your overall life.
