Two spots open in $3K tourney Matt Youmans from the R-J contacted me and said they need two more entrants to make 16 in their handicapper challenge. It's $3K, but it looks like 100% returned and you'll be playing with a bunch of "names," so it's a good chance to pull some good PR if you're looking for that. Let me know if you want in. Here are the details. Cantor Football Showdown Presented by The Las Vegas Sportsline Each Friday at midnight throughout the football season we will host our radio show on KDWN-AM (720) in a contest format from the Cantor Gaming sports book at M Resort. (Entry fee, bracket draw and play selection rules) Sixteen contestants enter for $3,000 each. After a blind draw to be held in early September to determine the first-round bracket, two handicappers go head to head on Friday night by making seven selections against the spread, from all college and NFL sides and totals on the board. The contestants will use the Cantor lines posted on the board as of 11:30 p.m. (Tiebreakers) In the event of a tie after seven selections, these tiebreaking rules will apply: The seventh selection is the first tiebreaker. If each contestant goes 4-3, for example, the one who wins the seventh play advances. The sixth selection will be used as the second tiebreaker, and that tiebreaking process continues in reverse order to the first selection. If the contestants remained tied after seven tiebreakers, the contestant who cleared the point spread or total by the most points with their seventh selection advances as the winner. For example, if Contestant A picks a 35-point favorite that wins by 49 points, he cleared the point spread by 14. If Contestant B picks a 14-point favorite that wins by 24 points, he cleared the point spread by only 10 points. In that case, Contestant A would advance as the matchup winner. That tiebreaking process also would continue in reverse order to the first selection. If a tie still exists after 14 tiebreakers, a coin flip will determine the winner. (Contest form) Registration is open at the M Resort as of Sept. 2. Each contestant is allowed one proxy. Cantor Gaming will input the contestants’ seven plays — with lines posted as of 11:30 p.m. — on an official seven-team contest form. (Schedule) The first round consists of eight weeks, Sept. 9 through Oct. 28. The final eight consists of four weeks, Nov. 4 through 25. The final three weeks are Dec. 2, 9 and 16. All college football bowl games posted on the board are eligible contest plays in the Dec. 16 championship match. (Reseeding the bracket) The bracket will be reseeded after the first round. The player with the highest first-round winning percentage gets the No. 1 seed; lowest winning percentage to advance is the No. 8 seed. If winning percentages match for two or more contestants, the above tiebreaking rules will be used to break the tie in terms of seeding the bracket. The bracket is reseeded again for the final four, with the contestants’ overall winning percentage for two rounds being used, and the same tiebreaking rules applying. (Summary and prize money distribution) The winner takes 75 percent of the $48,000 pot with second place earning 25 percent. If any ties exist after the scheduled conclusion of the contest, the surviving contestants will divide the prize pool equally.
