Wednesday Baseball Seattle at Kansas City
The Royals recalled Kyle Davies from the minors to make this start tonight. He pitched well in Triple A with a 4-2 record and 2.06 ERA. He was talked about highly by many in the media before the season but he just couldn't put it all together in Kansas City. He was highly touted when he originally came up in Atlanta and it's a good time to back him in the role of home underdog. Davies faced the Mariners twice last year holding them to a .196 batting average and .255 slugging percentage. We expect another strong outing from Davies.
Lukas French was one of the pitchers the M's received in the Washburn deal with Detroit. He's never been considered more than a 4th or 5th starter at this level. He could be in for a tough time as Kansas City hits lefties very well at home at a .279 clip, a full 25 points better than against right-handed starters.
The Royals have won 10 of the last 13 meetings while hosting the Mariners. The wrong team is favored here tonight.
PLAY KANSAS CITY
Totally agree. Was the game I liked the most today also. You hit on some of the exact points I liked in this one. Wrong team is favored. Royals always play the M's well in KC. Davies comes back up with new confidence and is put in nice easy spot here in his first game back, at home against the weak hitting Mariners. Being a Tigers fan I got to watch French pitch and his ERA is very misleading. His WHIP (close to 1.6) is actually a much truer indication of what type pitcher he is. He got out of a lot of jams. You hit it on the head, he was never suppose to be much more then he is right now, a 5th starter. In fact I would be very surprised he makes it the rest of the year in Seattle without being sent back down. Always tough for a below average rookie to pitch well on the road and now he has to do it the first time for an entire organization that he has never pitched before.
