WOW, an UNPRECEDENTED BARRAGE OF NFL POINTS WEEK1!!! I've never seen a week1 like this. OVERS go 10-3-1. If you picked theright moment to bet 'over' in late July you went 12-2..............
Yeah, I couldn't have been more wrong about blindly betting unders in light of Thursday's result. Any word from anyone yet whether there were more KR/PR TDs than usual? I can't be objective because I watched the 49er game.
I doubt there were way more PRTD KRTD this week. But I noticed MANY teams returning the kickoff even 5+ yards deep in the end zone. And it turned out to be good ideas to do so. I thought there were many teams with poor pass defense. Cam Newton surely looked good but at times it was impossible for him to miss his target. Carolina WRs were wide open multiple times.
Call me crazy but I think this is setting things up for some very strong UNDER stuff the next two months. There is no way that this returning the ball from the back of the end zone is all of a sudden a great idea. That coupled with the fact that some coaches need to wake up to the fact that banging the ball out of the end zone (directing the kickers to line drive it more to get those extra 5-10 yds distance) is the way to go. Watch the Pats tonight and see how a coach that knows what he's doing handles it.

Every kick should be returned just like virtually all fourth downs should be go for its...(At least 75%). The downside of starting at the 15 or 18 is far outweighed by the upside of getting far past the 20 or a TD. I've never understood why anyone doesn't bring back every kickoff.
You are right. And barring a case where you just don't have a competent return man/team they should have been bringing those middle of the endzone KOs out so the new rule helped correct what some teams were botching for a long time.
Scifers was smart on a few kicks. His went to the corner of the endzone, not right up the middle where the return man is
Kaeding was doing the kickoffs. I didn't see the opening kickoff but when they flashed the highlight that Harvin took the opening kickoff all the way I was amazed. After all that happened at start of last year with special teams coverage it's unbelievable that they could let that happen.

Scifers kicked the rest of the game. Not bad for a punter.
