WOW, an UNPRECEDENTED BARRAGE OF NFL POINTS WEEK1!!!

I looked a bit into the special team stats, as I did not find anything out of the ordinary on offensive and passing yards. Penalties looks a bit inflated compared to normal weeks But kickoff returns, punt returns, interception returns and fumble returns looks out of the ordinary. There were 12 of these in total - whereof 3 KR and 2PR as far as I can count. Normally there are on average 18-20 KRs and 13-14 PRs per season. I dont have the numbers for IRs and FRs, but think these also are a bit high.
Is it safe to say that the increase in kick return and defensive TDs was from the short preseason?
Week 1 went Over the total by a combined 105 points (appx, vs closing #'s). Week 2 openers adjusted up by appx 2.5 points per game, and we've already seen market $$ on KC-Det Over, NYY-Jax Over, Oak-Buf Over, Arz-Was Over, Sea-Pit Over, GB-Car Over, Clev-Indy Over, SF-Dal Over, Hou-Mia Over & SD- NE Over. Now THAT is one hell of a market reaction to a single week of football, especially a week that set an all time record for special teams touchdowns AND a week where adding 2.5 points to every total would have produced a rather modest 9-7 Over mark, instead of the 12-3-1 that we saw.....
those totals may only go up up up on Sunday as Joe Public runs out to bet all the overs again...

While everything discussed is likely very correct I have a different view, at least when it comes to elite quarterbacks. It seems to me that teams with terrific signal callers can virtually score at will. It happened in the preseason when the starters were in and it carried over to last week. When two gunslingers go head to head they know they must produce at a high efficiency in order to stay ahead of the other talented QB. I'm not rushing out to play Unders when this happens. So while under 50 was an automatic play in the past I think we need to look deeper into it this season.
No argument with you Bryan. But we've seen Over $$ on the Jason Campbell-Ryan Fitzpatrick QB duo, or Marc Sanchez-Luke McCown, Rex Grossman-Kevin Kolb, and Kerry Collins-Colt McCoy; just to name a few. Those are not elite duos IMHO....
not just QBs you need to consider did you see some of the defenses out there? AZ let Carolina WRs and TEs roam free. Denver still has no run defense Dallas pass defense is mediocre at best and the injures pile up
When defenders are no longer allowed to hit or tackle offensive players, points will be scored.
When defenders are no longer allowed to hit or tackle offensive players, points will be scored.
I think that's part of it. More throwing over the middle of the field it seems. There's no more "He hung his receiver out to dry". The few calls I've seen this year have been even more ticky tack than last year. Basically, any hard hit chest level has a good chance of being flagged. It's not all of it, but it's part of it
