Well, that's dreadful. I've become careful about printing things that require copious ink, ink ain't cheap. I'll usually copy the text and paste it as text-only into MS-Word, then format as necessary before printing.
Never thought about the printing issue, guess we thought people would just download on their phones. We have updated the document and made it more print (ink) friendly.
