AC Please Appoint Some Volunteer Mods To Help Clean Up The Spam

It would help quite a bit.

Yes,just give me/us a tool to REPORT these infiltrators.

We used to have some fun,but now I see some really bad pollution that has sneaked in.

If I quote the the invasive posts about eleventeen times, will that alert the staff to the infiltration of this sacred forum?

Please give us the tools to help play MODERATOR.

The power to complain or to report of a post that does NOT belong here.

QOD:  Shall we have the power to report abuse, hate language or illegal or questionable products here?

We users should have the power to report ANY post that is not about Las Vegas and trying to sell us products that are not FDA approved or clearly against the law.

AR-15's.Hand held pulse rifles.C-4.Claymores.Bomb grade Plutonium.Artificial finger prints.Electro Magnetic  pulse devices.Consumer-use computer hacking viruses.Mosquito infected human killers.

There already are volunteer mods...you just have to wait until they get to the spam to delete it.

Dave in Seattle, good buddy, let us NOT complicate this particular question/concern with "ANY post that is not about Las Vegas."   Kitchen Sink is just that...for anything else, including non-Vegas stuff, though NOT for advertising.  I hate those AD guys too.

For newer subscribers, in the older version of LVA there was Kitchen Sink (KS), and there was Free For All (FFA).  Kitchen Sink was for non-Vegas, non-gambling questions, such as "Does anyone have a recipe for Bananas Foster?"  I don't recall political fights occurring under Kitchen Sink.  All the nasty attacks between people who mostly never met each other filled FFA.  With the redesign (I sound like I know much...I really don't except that I'm old), FFA went away.  KS was up for vote in the redesign.  I personally voted to include Kitchen Sink in the redesign, naively believing KS would be similar to the older system, benign questions not intended to insult or otherwise raise anyone's ire.  Unfortunately, the hate language and nasty personal attacks simply relocated to Kitchen Sink.  Silly me.

To the point (do I ever get there?), the annoying advertising spam that appears almost daily (and for some reason only under certain forums) is the subject raised by Mark, of all people!  LOL.

Why is it "LOL" that Mark raises the subject? You're implying that he's one of those on the Kitchen Sink who...oh, never mind. We have David Miller there to set the bar really, really, really low.

In any case, cleaning up the spam will be a futile effort unless someone wants to go through the brutal slog of authenticating every single user account and denying access to the bots. That would take a week or more of doing nothing but that.

Sigh...it is against my better judgment to reply, but it is a fair question...maybe.   "Why is it "LOL" that Mark raises the subject?"  Only to clarify that "of all people", regarding Mark raising the question, was meant in jest, no insult intended, not meant to start anything.   Sorry, Mark.

Yes, Mark of all people. I have operated websites and discussion forums since 1999, so I have some expertise in this area.   As I suggested in the other thread on this topic, the only real way to deal with the spam is to have humans remove it. From what I saw last night, LVA doesn't have enough humans here to keep up with it especially during non-business hours.

As to the reporting suggestion, it wouldn't work and it just adds more work for the people removing the spam.  It is much more efficient to visually scan the forum and remove it when you see it. Having to go through 20-30 messages every morning reporting the same thing doesn't add anything to the process and just gets in the way.

Good thing I didn't try for comedy as a career, stand up or written.  Nobody would get me.

Sorry, Candy. It's just that long before I got here, and continuing through today, Mark has been regularly assaulted by our resident Trumpers for every single thing he says. If you meant that in jest, my bad.
