Breaking the slot code again

Apparently, what happened is that the editor of this long-anticipated Huntington Press title inadvertently found himself between 17 slot vultures and a slot machine with a postive EV.  He has not been heard from since.

Yeah, well, understandable; playing the machine was worth $1.83.

There seemed to be a team of players hitting the dancing drums pot game at Green Valley every night.  The jackpots would fise during the day, and they would start playing about 11pm and lock everyone out of playing.  The next morning the jackpots had all been hit .  Same players all 4 nights

That's an example of why the Slot Code book, if and when it comes out, will be of only academic interest.

BTW, those and any other vultures can't know when those games become +EV, because they would have to know the base payback of the machine, which is of course not visible. And yes, they can estimate the point at which the game "must" be positive, but I have the feeling that with a huge black cloud of vultures constantly circling Vegas, many of them fudge it too far and wind up playing games that aren't profitable at all.

That is more or less my interest in it and why I ordered it. Do I expect to read it and become a profitable slot player? Start finding and playing positive ev games and make a living? No. Not at all.  But the fact that some people have made a living that way Is something I find pretty interesting and think I would enjoy learning more about.

I don't expect to be able to find a bunch of games that are in good EV states. But I do think it might help me learn to avoid certain games when at thier worst state.

Well, I hear you...but one lesson would be that you never want to play those games unless you're going to play to the "conclusion," aka hitting one of the bonuses--because you'll bleed much more copiously than on a non-banking slot. I for one am bothered by the fact that if I lose $4 bajillion, $2 bajillion of that is going into some other player's pocket. I also don't like the idea of being more or less forced to keep playing even though I'm getting killed, because it's positive EV.

The dynamics/mathematics of it all are pretty simple. Making a living by scooping up bonuses left behind by others is no more complex than picking nickels out of slot trays (back in the day). What I would be interested in is videos of slot vultures getting into fistfights over who gets to play a +EV machine.

I would agree with much of what you just said Kevin.  However I sometimes see a game at an advantage and am willing to take a chance with 20 or 40 dollars, hoping the game just broke the last guy.  Sometimes it works.  Last trip I played a MO MO MO mummy game and got a triple pop on the first spin.  Guess what, I won 6.70 in the bonus round on a triple pop.  That can happen if you put in a 20, or after dumping 200.  Then do you still say it;s gotta hit ?   The deeper your pockets, the better chances for chasing some of those advantage plays, but chase one for a big lose can ruin your whole trip in less than 2 hours.

Totally agree....but I do look for games in a positive state and will play a few hundred.  More often than not it works out, but not always.  What happened with you on MO MO MO Mummy has happened to me on a few games like the Rich Little Piggies and the Pots game....not too many spins in, but the bonus was crappy.

This book won't be coming out this year. The store page now says. "Please note this product is not expected in-house until 2026."

I suppose that like just about every AP-style endeavor, it can get tedious very very quickly--as well as frustrating. Fun and positive expectation are pretty much opposites in casinos. And I can imagine someone clutching a copy of The Slot Code in their sweaty fist and spending hours circulating around the Golden Commode, finally finding a +EV play, and then dumping $400 in order to score...a $10 bonus.

It does remind me of when my VP AP friends used to chase progressives. Almost all progressives had shit base paytables, so they'd bleed at 97% return for hours...and then some drunk or little old lady would sit down next to them, stick in a fiver, and of course instantly hit it.

On today's LVA podcast, Anthony stated that this will be released in February 2026. Maybe we should all have a February meetup in Vegas, and we can play Rich Little Piggy's until it's positive, then step away and watch the vultures swarm in. :)
