Breaking the Slot Code

You won't find any real opportunities during your trip, anyway...unless you want to spend hours and hours "scouting," and maybe not even then. That's not how you want to spend your vacation, methinks......................

I mostly just find the topic interesting. I don't plan on spending much time hunting for machines or  competing with the pros. I mostly just want to have a good idea of what to keep an eye out for and things to keep in the back of my mind. Maybe I will stumble across something good.

Well, then, given that your Vegas time will be limited and finite, I would recommend spending that time doing something else. What the book may or may not mention is how utterly tedious slot vulturing is and how many hundreds of machines you need to inspect. You can't just look at them--you have to hit buttons to see the bonuses for each denomination. (There are some exceptions to that.)

I know if whence I speak. Many moons ago, I vultured Odyssey slots. I made about $30 an hour--not bad back then. But after a week or so of doing that, I thought I was going to lose my mind from the monotony and the tedium.

But by all means, please do share your experiences. I would be very intrigued to hear if I'm dead wrong and there are +EV opportunities everywhere.

My experience with it leads me to conclude you really don't know that much about AP slotting, at least not in its current state.  There are still good opportunities, which I take advantage of to break up my video poker play since some places now are starting to back off of offers for people for play video poker exclusively.   But if you weren't so reflexively judgmental and self-righteous (which, for somebody who used a capital-S Slur to refer to Native Americans in a recent-ish post, is A Choice 👀), maybe you would know this by now 🤷

Kevin doesn't understand that if you're in a casino anyway, you might as well keep an eye out as you walk through. Many times nothing much comes of it. Other times you might hit $1,130 on Buffolo Ascension while walking through The Palms.

Hey, you don't need to justify your actions to me or to yourself. I didn't say that there weren't any opportunities at all, did I? It's a pretty lame argumentative tactic, and one used by a lot of people in these forums.

I have no idea what "slur" you're referring to. You used a couple of slurs to refer to me, so you may have an, um, unorthodox view of what a slur is. Take a chill pill. Available at the casino gift store.

If you want to spend some or all of your Vegas vacay scampering around looking for +EV plays, I say, go to! I just know that given the general dearth of such plays in Vegas these days, you won't be the only seeker.

You obviously missed it when I said I used to do slot vulturing. I even made a mental map in order to get a look at every machine downtown that might offer an opportunity.

And that means that you can't be going somewhere else and check out all the possibly +EV games at the same time. Just glancing at the machines you pass by won't be very productive. Why not? Those machines will be the most visible to all the other vultures. Any opportunity won't last long.

The only way to vulture these days is to do the grand tour, which gets really tedious and is time-consuming. There's simply not enough low-hanging ripe fruit out there. Not any more, anyway.

Oh, I think I know what supposed "slur" you're referring to. I said "Injun casino." Every single time I use that term, SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, gets all kerfuffled and panties-twisted. So I thought I'd take a moment to soothe your grievously offended sensibilities.

When tribal casinos were just starting to become a thing, the tribes themselves almost never had enough money to start them up. However, the casinos had to be "tribal businesses," usually dictated by their compacts with the states. So they cut deals with shadow corporations and anonymous investors. The casinos they started had appropriate names, the requisite regalia, and a token Native staff that usually had not the foggiest idea of what they were doing (how could they?). These were called "Indian casinos" or "Native casinos," but in reality, they were just white person corporate business investments, with the tribe serving as a front.

So I resisted calling those casinos "Indian casinos." They were in actuality no such thing.

I really didn't think that there were that many people who had watched too many Westerns when they were kids and would thus be offended.

Yes, I know you used to vulture. And yes, you don't understand, just like I said before. Good day.

Well, that's a pretty stupid as well as mean-spirited thing for you to say. What is it that I supposedly don't understand? Never mind, don't try to answer, because you can't.

Try not to turn everything into some kind of pissing contest. You'll vulture as much as you want to. So will I. Enjoy!

On a "beer Friday" back in June, Anthony stated the book should be released in August. August has no come and gone and the book is not out.

That was the last official statement I heard. The store page says late 2025

Basically we've gone from early 2025, to mid 2025, to August 2025, to late 2025. And that's just since I've been watching.

I'm speculating that this book got sideline to spend more time on the sports betting book being written.

Anyway, what do you guys think the odds are that this book will be released this year?

If I was to guess February 2026 for the release, who takes the under who takes the over?
