Odds on a Seahawks/Titans game that isn't happening

Las Vegas News

November 19, 2020 16:56 TNF Seahawks/Cardinals:

The Seattle Seahawks are -3 favorites over the Tennessee Titans in tonight's Thursday Night Football game. The total is 57.

3 point favorites? Well, I think the Seahawks will do better at out-scoring the Tennessee Titans since the Titans won't even be playing.

They should have over/under odds on a future game being cancelled  =)

Or we should be able to bet Over/Under on the number of positive cases every week in the NFL.

Someone at Tyson headquarters (or a plant somewhere ?) was fired for betting in a pool on how many employees will come down with Covid, or test positive.  An employee who lost a relative to Covid learned of the pool and complained.  The whole thing is being investigated and others may go down.  I had half an ear on HLN as they were telling it, so I might not have the details right.

I'd stay away from any betting having to do with Covid.

The unethical element is that you should never bet on any event where you can have an influence on the outcome. Whoever was fired probably had some kind of oversight re safety measures---which would be especially relevant if this was a Tyson chicken plant.

I guess I'm becoming weary of Americans' foolish irresponsibility. A significant portion of the citizenry is apparently planning to spend the holidays as if there was no such thing as the pandemic. Barely half of the people wear masks, and some of them don't wear them properly. We're not smart enough to keep this virus until control. Our FREEDUMB is killing us.

My crack about the NFL refers to how, just to keep the masses entertained, we've HAD to have professional sports, even though doing so endangers athletes and the small army of support personnel that is necessary, even in the absence of live attendance. People, including the athletes themselves, are getting sick when they don't need to.

The best solution is to lock down until we get a vaccine (or two). But everyone who suggests that gets mercilessly attacked and we hear about PRESHUS AMURRICAN FREEDUMBS over and over. We now have excellent data that shows that cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are all greater (on a per capita basis) in the dumbass Trumper red states where not wearing a mask has been a sign of fealty to the Orange One.

Kevin I wasn't judging you for your NFL crack.  Just so happened I had seen that news item about Tyson this morning.

I well remember the college football pool at work every season.  Someone would come around with a page of squares and numbers up the side and across the top.  If you want to participate you signed a "square" and handed over a dollar.  Somehow, depending on our team score and the opponent score somebody won all the money, maybe 50 or a hundred bucks?  Can't really remember how much.  I never won, but thought it was great fun.  At some point it was shut down by the head office.  Didn't understand why at the time.  Now I'm sure somebody complained that it was a disruption on the work units or gambling on a Federal property, or some such reason.

In my experience, things like that are stopped because one person makes a complaint. Sort of like the guy across the street who calls the cops because your car is sticking six inches out of your driveway, or the woman at the grocery store who draws her dainty little gun and shoots the guy in front of her in the checkout line because he has eleven items when the sign clearly says "Ten items or less."

And by the way, it should be "Ten items or fewer," but I'm not about to point that out to the woman with the gun. You never know when someone with a gun is still smarting because they failed freshman English.
