paywall

Are the new restrictions for non-paying users that now denies posting to the forums the only changes being made or are they just the first of more to come as a gradual rollout of a paywall?

Specifically, will the QoD continue to be viewable to visitors who don't pay to read it?

I just noticed the posting restriction today. When did it start and what else, if anything, is now behind a paywall? TIA for a reply.

Hello Jeff,

As you pointed out, we are gradually rolling out the paywall.

The Forums and The Visit tabs have all been paywalled as of today, including the QoD.

We've been announcing this for a few months now through our newsletter.

But we made sure to cover this specific change with two QoDs last month.

We are expecting to be fully paywalled by next week.

Yes, we're making this a members-only website. Nothing changes for current members. Those who aren't members, but don't want the $50 Platinum membership, can become Diamond members for $3 per month. Diamond will be able to access everything, including the current and past newsletters. The only element excluded are the best Member Rewards offers that come with Platinum. Feel free to ask any questions here.

I've made the decision to unsubscribe, and it's shameful to witness this imitative and conformist social behavior, especially when I had foreseen it coming, much like Trumpism and not being able to think independently and critically.

Instead of pioneering new approaches and promoting positive trends, it seems this last "traditional" Vegas site has hastily rushed to emulate detrimental behaviors and follow unhinged trends.

While I understand the need for revenue, inundating users with ads and background content should suffice to sustain a site like this. It's disheartening to see news, something that should be freely accessible, now tied to a fee.

To me, AC is simply aligning himself with the profit-driven mentality of large corporations, taking advantage of others whenever possible. It's a pity; it had a good run while it lasted

I honestly have to say that the above post is one of the most asinine, dumb and moronic things I have ever read in the Advisor Forums. If you don't want to subscribe for a full $50/ year menbership ( which includes the MRB) , you can opt for the monthly fee of $3/month - 10 cents a day. Apparently YOU have no idea as to the value of the content and the efforts made to secure the content. If you think that AC is going to get rich with this change, you are obviously too ignorant to comprehend what it takes and costs to produce the Advisor. I know that I don't speak for Anthony, I speak for myself and the 30+ years I have had a subscription to this great, informative site. Though, by the content of your posting, you don't warrant it - I want to wish you good luck as you seek to find other sources for your Vegas info.

I'm curious the exact wording of the question Sally_Ann submitted to an AI app to get that post:

"imitative and conformist social behavior"  (Huh?)

"pioneering new approaches and promoting positive trends"  (Err...you have some to suggest?)

"emulate detrimental behaviors and follow unhinged trends"  (AI footprints all over this one)

"news...should be freely accessible" (Newsflash...nothing on earth is free.)

"aligning...with the profit-driven mentality of large corporations" (Oh, please.)

Still laughing.

Comments such as those from Sally_Ann were inevitable. It's not surprising that she and others are misinformed in various assertions (if I hear one more time how much money we're making from ads, I think my head will explode), but it's somewhat perplexing that they're so angry for no reason. As has been pointed out by me and others (thank you for that), it's a simple matter of deciding whether or not something is worth the cost. A seller sets a price and the buyers make that decision. What really made choosing this path so satisfying for us is that it didn't hurt our customers one bit. It's only those who aren't customers, and are now losing something that they apparently want, who are angry. Why is it our job to placate them? It isn't.

I can appreciate both sides and there are other ways to get Vegas informaiton through various YouTube channels and Facebook pages for those that don't want to pay.  However, I trust the informaiton coming from LVA and frankly, I just like the way the LVA is laid out not to mention the great coupons!

As for getting rich off of ads, that's funny. I stopped by your humble office a few years ago. You're not exactly  on the 32th floor of the Veer Towers overlooking the strip. I can tell it's a labor of love and I appreciate all that you do.

LVA is more than worth the value and content it provides at very reasonable cost, particularly when one considers the savings accessible with the MRB. Anyone interested in most things Vegas won't find any other single publication that even begins to compete with it.

I've deleted the Lewis/Miller nonsense that was put up here today. I appreciate you both on most levels, but you have to take this juvenile crap to the Kitchen Sink. It won't EVER be allowed elsewhere.
