Question about Rio coupon

In the first part of the terms and conditions it states 30% off the prevailing rate. Then a little further down it says that the 30% is off the regular rate. Please see below in bold.

Receive 30% off prevailing room rate plus your resort fee waived each night. Use code [CALL TO GET CODE] when booking. Discount of 30% is off of the regular room rate. Reservations must be made through calling the Rio Las Vegas directly at 866.746.7671 to receive 30% off the prevailing base room rate.......

Does having to call to get the rate mean that one could not go online to check what the rate is before calling to book?

Thank you

When you're booking a room, there is a "promo code" button above the arrival and departure dates, click it and enter the code on the LVA coupon. LVA 30%(or something like that) will fill in for the promo you're using, and check out the dates you're considering for the discounted rate.

I quoted the terms of service in my post. Not sure if you read them.  There is no code on that coupon. It says "call to get code". It then goes on to say that one must call the hotel for the discount.

Sorry about that, different from last year.

My question is whether the code will be (surprisingly) reusable, like it was last year.

If you call them to obtain the code and Rio Rita tries to get in your way, remember that you can defeat her by saying "banana banana banana" until she gives up and connects you to a human.

No worries. I didn't book last year but used the code to check pricing a few times.

I heard a rumor that people who were not members were able to use the code and the front desk was not requiring the physical coupon at check-in.

I would think that Rio could update the system to flag the reservation with a note for the front desk to check the coupon. I suspect Rio decided it would be easier to have people call instead. Then the phone agent can add a note to the file.

Yeah, the first time I used the offer was in April, and I had used the code to reserve online; the front deskling never asked for the physical coupon. He did express disbelief at the low rate and summoned his manager, who flatly told me it must have been a mistake and the rate was really $17,000,000,005 per night, plus tax and resort fee. I then showed him my confirmation email and informed him gently that I would raise hell if he didn't honor it. He got all smiley then and told the deskling to check me in.

I figured that while I had retained the coupon, there was no way in hell I was going to be allowed to use the offer again. But I tried to do so in October, and the website accepted the offer code. I went there prepared to be told to fuck off, or at least again be given a lot of grief, but it went like clockwork. And on my next visit, I never even interacted with a human to check in...I just used the kiosk.

Another employee told me later that at least half of the guests currently staying there (the week before Horsie Time) were using the LVA offer. So that tells me that the Rio powers that be were quite happy with people reusing the offer.

That makes sense, as guests there on the cheap will still gamble and eat there, maybe see a show, etc. Like Vegas used to operate. Rio was very smart to become a relative bargain destination.

A portion of the terms for the real coupon reads:

Receive 30% off prevailing room rate plus your resort fee waived each night. Use code [CALL TO GET CODE] when booking. Discount of 30% is off of the regular room rate. Reservations must be made through calling the Rio Las Vegas directly at 866.746.7671 to receive 30% off the prevailing base room rate.......

Should I read "regular room rate" as having the same meaning as "base room rate"?

I interpret the two terms to mean the same as "rack rate"--the room charge before any discounts, fees, or taxes are applied. As far as "prevailing" is concerned, I think it means "at the time you make your reservation." That's probably to warn that room rates gyrate like a Ferris wheel with all the bolts loose.

The annoying thing about this change is that you have to fight your way past Rio Rita to talk to a human to get the code. Then you have to spend fifteen days on hold. But maybe the offer is reusable with the same code.

Hey, that gives me an idea. I'll go to their website and see if I can make a reservation using "LVA26" as the offer code.
