South Point

It should not be that big a surprise that South Point has opted out of having coupons in the MRB. The primary function of coupons is to drive traffic to the casino - South Point has gotten to the point where they are busy seemingly 24/7, 365 days of the year. They really have no incentive to need coupons in order to drive traffic. I, like many others will miss their coupons, but I understand why they no longer see the need for them.

There's more to it, as there almost always is. Bottom line: SP doesn't like LVA. OK. We move on.

I am pretty sure that you will refrain from saying why South Point does not like LVA - but it makes me wonder, what is there about the LVA not to like?

We wrote something 20+ years ago that infuriated Michael Gaughan. They've never cooperated with us since. It was like pulling teeth to get what we did. Petty as hell. It's a great casino and we'll continue to point out what's good about them. But they continue to thumb their noses at LVA members. We can't continue to promote a place that doesn't like us and our customers without taking that into consideration and we'll temper that promotion.

It is a shame that things are where they are today. I find that the LVA and South Point to be cornestones for my Vegas visits.

I wrote to him directly and he didn't respond. I'm done with them.

Good God, what could that have been? Mild criticism? Any business owner/operator should welcome that sort of thing, as a) he should want to know what's wrong/could be improved, and b) there's really no such thing as bad publicity.

I would imagine that being stonewalled by some prick-in-charge is an increasingly common experience for you guys at LVA, given the current naked hostility to bargains or deals of any sort. But as you said in this month's LVA issue, the very concept of deals and bargains is dying. Funny, though, since South Point still does offer some of the best deals in town, that you get such antipathy from them. Gaughan sounds like a royal jerkass. Twenty-year grudge. Sheesh!

I would think SouthPoint and LVA would be like two peas in a pod until I read this.  The two of you are the closest things we have to old Las Vegas left.  They pay out better on almost all of their games and the place is always packed.  Seems like a hell of a business model to me.  They do it on volume instead of margin and people keep pouring in there.

South Point sweats the money and has done so for many years.  Anthony's membership in the Blackjack Hall of Fame likely has a lot to do with their tepid attitude towards him.
