I couldn't find any confirmation of that rumor. I suspect that it would have been reported in multiple sources if it were true.
Gaughan initially sold the Orleans to Boyd in the early 2000s but soon wanted to buy it back. Boyd said no and instead, offered to sell him South Coast (the former name of South Point), which wasn't doing very well at the time. Gaughan accepted and bought it for a relatively bargain price, renaming it in a way that didn't require much alteration to all the signage.
After and since, Gaughan has sunk his resources into South Point and probably doesn't have enough cash to buy the Orleans back, and maybe doesn't want to.
