Why Are Links Disabled

?? Inquiring minds want to know.

Testing it out to see if it will help cut down on all the spam posting.

But it also means we can't share information, articles etc!!!

I said the same thing.  If its a problem of too much spam on the front end of the site, embed Disqus or Facebook comments on the front end of the site and click the don't allow comments checkbox on the posts and pages on the front end. You will get more legitimate posts as people already have membership in those things.  Then you can set WP registrations to manual approval making it hard to spam the forum.

A less radical solution would be to click on the settings icon in your WP dashboard and then discussion. There are all sorts of check the box options there including:

**Comment author must have a previously approved comment

I haven't gotten a spam comment on my site since I checked these two options.

The spammers are now putting their URLs in their sign up names, so disallowing links did not get rid of them.

Since one is not allowed to Copy and Paste entire articles on a forum,  the only way to share Vegas info is to be able to share the link to a story.

In my opinion it is pretty hard to have a decent forum without being able to share links.

It is only available to the site's administrators as they are global settings. It is usually found at mydomain.com/wp-admin/ although it can be moved to a different location for security reasons. Sometimes I put a password on that directory via the server if I am having problems on the site in question. In other words, they have to log into the server and as a WP admin to see the administrative options.  Now I am rambling. Anyway, it has been over ten days since I changed those settings on my own site and I haven't had one spam posting since.

Thanks,Mark.

The spammers are still here and there. I REALLY want the power to report these jerks.

Flag, condemn and swear at these infiltrators.

I get a lot of crap in my Email and it is overwhelming at times.

The filters that I use are useless.

I go to the message source and block the domain of some of them.

Thank you for allowing LINKS again!
