Casino Host in action?

Since I've joined LVA, I've been curious about the whole casino host deal. We're heading to Vegas at the end of September and been wondering if I should contact one or not. I've already got 3 nights comps at Bally's, then going to the Mirage for a 4th night for $40.

Well today at Harris Rincon, I was playing Clue (unlocked rooms on totalrewards.com) and the player next to me was betting 200 per play and winning a lot. Me, nothing.

Suddenly a guy in a suit with a VIP Host name tag approached with another person and introduced himself to this guy. When the player turned around, the host said "Oh, you play here a lot don't you?" The guy said ''yes", the host said "OK", and left.

Just seemed odd. The host of course ignored me who was betting minimum and losing. Is that normal for a VIP host? Is it worth it to even ask for one if you’re not a max bet player?

Thanks,

Jeff

If the player's level of play attracted a Host to them, then the host would have known by the person's player's card who they actually were and their past history. If the player was not using a card, the "VIP Host" may have stopped by to sign them up because of their level of play but realized they had already contacted that particular person before and didn't pressure the player to sign up for a card.

Anytime we have been involved with a CET Host the experience has been a waste of time for us. We had a very bad experience with a host at Paris and would never, ever, for absolutely anything, go to a host there. However, during our last checkout at Paris, a host was kind enough to speak to us on the phone and help clear up some charges on our bill that resulted for an error as a result of their promotions department, not ours. Took over 30 minutes of talking back and forth to resolve the charges in our favor.

The host usually can't do anything for us that we can't do ourselves except for maybe a free meal here or there. Then again, hosts seem to depart every couple of months and the host we dealt with on the last trip is not longer there and the new host says see me on your way out of your next visit, not what can I do to make your next visit here more enjoyable.

I must say we had a very nice encounter with a host a the M Resort on our last visit who was trying to give us free meals, extra nights stay, limo, etc but did not approach us during our stay. Again, the host we had assigned before our trip (just planned a few weeks earlier) was no longer there and we contacted the host on duty at checkout. At that time we we couldn't make use of anything being offerred except for a quick meal before we left. Had we been approached earlier during our stay we could have made arrangements for a longer stay but that was their loss.

We have recently received a lot of emails and phone calls from hosts at different properties that we visit in Las Vegas. Seems like a new trend in Las Vegas casinos is to hire a lot of hosts to see what kind of business they can drum up with cold calls or by sending out emails. On the phone they talk so fast you can barely understand what they are saying and not sure if you are talking to someone that wants to help you or simply to get more money out of your pocket on your next visit. Most simply want to help us set up with an offer we have already received on line or in the mail.

Chances are the host came up to the player per his or her play history, not the bets he or she was making at that time. Someone with strong play history could, and at times probably does, play minimum bet.
Well we had the best experience last time we went to Vegas. I stopped in to see a host at Caesars and just see what they could do for our next trip. We are both Gold Cards and not huge players. She took my info and we contacted her again now before our trip in October and she was the best. She went way, way, way above and beyond what we could have done for ourselves.

So I am going to tell you that it can not hurt to contact one next time you are out. The worse that can happen is that you dont like what they say and you keep doing what you are doing.

IMO the Host thing is a mixed bag.

You can get assigned to one who makes you feel welcome and important. Or not.

As time goes on things may change; either the Host leaves or your size in the fish pond.

As mikelwilson said, some experiences have been bad and that can cast a pall over the trip.

We've had Hosts perform from one end of that spectrum to the other.

Best advice: Keep expectations low and you won't be disappointed.

O2bn really hits the nail on the head.

NEVER let a host ruin your trip - it's your VACATION!!

Don't expect much - and then you MIGHT be surprised by something nice!!
Fred, who's your host @ Caesars?
Rachel is our host at Caesars. She really went out of her way to help us and get us set. We are staying 11 nights in October and we usually do a few nights off the strip where we get a night or two for free and then a few at Harrahs or if we were lucky we would do 3 nights at Caesars. She got us into Caesars for an unbelievable deal all 11 nights. So yes it was obviously worth it to stop and see a host.
Thanks Fred. We'll definitely look Rachel up during our next trip and let her know Fred referred us.
If you have a players card there already, shoot me an email at [email protected] and I can get you her email and maybe she can do something for your next trip.
