I just got my 7 stars welcome newspaper and read the fine print, it looks like the companion card is only good for jumping the lines, using upgraded (diamond/7*'s check in) and getting into the diamond lounges.
I do have to say I like the 7* priviledges, it's nice to jump the lines. I also enjoy the perks at Rincon, such as the free buffet, media credit and check in water/snack bag.
