Cromwell thumbs down

Recently spent several days at the renovated Cromwell on a work/play visit to Las Vegas. One word: Disappointment. Had to clean portion of bathroom myself due to the crud / hair build-up in corners, handicapped door by valet entrance not functioning, had to help handicapped folks negotiate the doors all the while valets and a supposed doorman stood by. On the last incident I asked about the door. Response: "Yea it's been broken for a while, don't know what to tell you". Trying to get to the valet area on weekends a nightmare, and you must valet as there is no self park (closest is Flamingo) Topper was when I checked out, I was asked by the clerk about the satisfaction of my stay. I replied "I won't stay here again". Response: "Well, the Cromwell is not for everyone."Not a question about why I was dissatisfied. Positive, great views from room, most comfortable bedding I've slept on in LV and excepting the Four Seasons and Delano, have stayed at every high end hotel on the strip. Pass this one by folks, good points don't offset the negatives. Pass this one by folks.
Visited over Easter weekend. Just looking at the renovated facade sickened me. Looks like a basic stucco facelift in Buena Park. Not even worth a second look, let alone visiting inside. So sad to lose that place.
I was also very disappointed. On a trip last month with another couple, we stopped in and expected to see something special. Not. We really missed the old Bill's. Gone the fun atmosphere, the fun live music in the bar, the hot dog cart, the good margaritas at the back bar......and especially gone the best parking on the whole strip. No one looked like they were having a good time.
haven't stayed in the rooms. The casino seemed really stuffy...and quiet. I pretty watch walked the length of the casino and back....didn't play anything or even buy a drink. Not my kind of place.

I had the same experience as pjstroh. The vibe and feeling were not agreeing with me. So, we did what any sensible person would do to get your mojo back in order. We walked down to the next door property, the world famous "Stage Door Casino". I had to take advantage of their stiff (and really inexpensive) drinks. One can't help but revel in the character and the actual characters found in this property. Come to think of it, I am quite certain there are several holes in the wall.

+1!!!

there was a time when Barbary coast was my favorite casino. I just loved it. and they had good late night coffee shop specials. I know things must change but I want to cling to my old school joints!
