Diamond Shake Down

The Diamond Card requirement goes up next year from it's current 11,000 points to 15,000 points. For VP players, that's $150,000 in play.

Their reasoning is that the requirements in four or five years. Anyone who is a diamond member knows that they have been diminishing the perks more and more over the years. When I first joined, the Diamond Lounges were open from 9 AM to 11 PM. Hot food was served from 11 AM to 11 PM. Diamond members were always given a "gift" at check in or in their room would be a welcome pack. Cash back was a regular expectation, comp rooms were for 7 nights a week and if there was a suite available, it was given to you automatically.

Fast forward to now: DL hours are now down to 4 PM to 11 PM (some places even close at 9 PM), hot food is regulated down to two hours (usually from 6 to 8) and what used to be full meals are now down to chicken wings and other deep fried finger foods. There are no gifts or sweet surprises in your room; nights are now Sun to Thur only and even then, they only block a few rooms on your offer and if you're late, the rooms are booked (New Orleans Harrahs is notorius for this).

All that is left is your Diamond Lounges with their finger foods and line passes and Diamond Registration. Is playing VP on machines are specifically set with lower pay schedules and then double-whammyed by required twice as many points worth it?

How about the Atlantic City diamond members? Last year, they were told that unless they had at least 1500 points, they'd have to pay a $10 entry fee to their diamond lounges because "we listen to our customers who have asked for more quality food in our diamond lounges, so in order for us to provide even better offerings, we will add this $10 requirement. It's been over a year and I've been told by many that absolutely nothing has changed in the diamond lounges.

If effect, Caesars have turned their Diamond perks into Platinum perks. The exception if for the highest leve of 7 Stars, who continue (and rightly so) to receive all the benefits and perks they always have. So, much like the cry of electoriate that the 2% get all the breaks, that appears to be Caesars policy. Give the rich that much more and take from everyone below. The gap between the "classes" continues to widen.

Some suspect that because of the CEO's buying frenzy that has put Ceasers into debt to the tune of many billions of dollars, he has chosen to squeeze the little guy out of some more bucks. Others suggest that Caesars is simply assumining that the Diamonds will just sit and take it.

So, obviously, what will this mean? If you love the line passes and the check in and the two tickets a month to their "B" shows, then I suppose you'll just play (and lose) more to maintain it. Personally, I feel that many will take the attitude that I have, and that is play out with the time I have and then move elsewhere with my play.

I'm just a couple thousand points away from re-newing diamond for 2013, so I suppose I'll make that but it will be my last time. In 2013, I'll continue to accept the occasional free rooms; I'll drink in the Diamond Lounges and scoff up some chiken wings. I'll work out in their fitness centers, and use my two free show tickets. I'll use up my Reward Credits and then when 2014 comes along, I'll be a higher tier with either Stations or Boyds' properties having not put ANY points on a Ceasers property at all.

All good things do come to and end. It's been a fun ride...good bye Caesars!
Jon, I hear your frustration.
Would you please confirm the source stating the increase in requirements? The website still lists 11,000 points for diamond.

October was the first time I experienced an AC diamond lounge. Was told the reason its 1000 points is because people abused it.
What Vegas needs is more owners like Benny Binion and Jackie Gaughan.Guys who knew how to treat the customer.Hey Harrahs/Caesars are you listening?Bet not.
At 11,000 still a good deal. IMHO They were idiots before, I got comped more than I lost, even got free trips. I think they finally did the math, They must make money after all, and they still make very little off me! The Great Race.....they lose their arsses, I think they are crazy, but I will take full advantage!!!!!! Do the math people, the Binions of the world comped you when you lost or won big, and it was never up-front. I will take Caesars any day of the week!

I am really pleased with the new Total Rewards online statement.
Shows what I spent in RCs and where (each restaurant, etc, what I earned (last trip), etc. and more. Never saw this complete of a statement before.

It also shows 2013 "progress" to Diamond (11,000) and Seven Stars (100,000-won't happen LOL). Looks like the requirements havn't changed.
I love the new statements as well and the transparency of Total Rewards verses all other rewards programs. I am thinking about playing at some M Life casinos during my upcoming trip but even earning Pearl or Gold there are bonus points benefits but no automatic benefits like 2 free show tickets/month, discounts on meals and spa services, etc. Maybe there are other benefits in addition to line passes and the bonus points but I didn't see them noted on the M Life web site. I actually have too many CET offers based in Vegas for lots of FSP, tournaments where you get $$ for showing up, etc. than I can afford airline $$ and time-wise to use.

I do agree about the reduction in service, especially with the Diamond lounges in Vegas (the ones in AC are still pretty good), but coin in for coin in, I seem to get more out of CET as an East Coaster than I would from other rewards programs. The benefits increase even more if you factor in AC. As a President club member of Stations, there's no benefit to me if I don't make it to Las Vegas and limited benefit for me as an M Life Pearl or Gold if I don't make it to Vegas (I don't travel much to Detroit or other locations where there are M Life casinos). CET has so many more casinos nationally where I can take advantage of my Diamond status.

I'm going to keep my President Status at Stations and try and get on the M Life radar but I still prefer what CET gives me and the transparency CET has and knowing exactly where I stand (for better or worse). The upgraded statements made that transparency even better.
got back from our trip to Vegas on 12/4/12 and just now have time to post...it's takes so long to get caught up on "life" when you return from 5 days in Vegas!

my husband & I had an exec. host at Bally's CONFIRM that 1/1/13 the Total Reward Tier point requirements will be increased as listed above...Diamond will be 15,000 and 7 Star goes to 150,000.

He said managment is still working out all the details and would be announcing it soon.
He indicated that going up on Diamond requirements would come with additional perks but he didn't have anything definite to share with us.

And...and this is where my husband and I looked at each other with amazement...the reason for the increase is that it is costing Caesars so much to maintain the diamond lounges. He said it cost each one thousands and thousands of dollars a year. Really? Really? and how much does it cost for the consumer to reach Diamond level? and Seven Star? Doesn't the current level of 7 Star cost in "coin in" terms, $500,000? (i may be wrong on this...sorry)

And...he went on to say...there are now so many Diamond players that the lounges are packed with people. When the program first started, there were not as many Diamond players and mgmt was trying to make reaching that tier level a real plus for gamblers. That most Diamond players they review actually have 18,000 to 20,000 or more points annually. Going up on the tier level point requirement will in essence weed out the players that just barely make it to 11,000 level. I am not making this up.

I had just won $5,000+ on 3 card poker hand and had asked the host if it would be possible to get 2 tickets to Jersey Boys that night. He turned me down...told me charge it to my room and they would look at my play at check out. LOL

There were HUGE numbers of people lined up at the Diamond lounges during our stay...but it was during the Great gift Giveway when a lot of diamond and 7 stars were in Vegas..hence we got bumped from our confimred Augustus tower room to the lowly Roman Tower room. Always long lines at the lounges - 20 to 30 min. waits. Did we stand in line...NO. For chicken wings and a vodka tonic...

Will be looking forward to seeing what the "new" perks to Diamond will be. you guys that make that level will surely enjoy them.
"so many Diamond players that the lounges are packed with people."

What did they expect would happen when they implemented Diamond in a Day?
Well, looks like I have 1 more trip to a CET property by the 31st. I'm 1800 tier points from renewing my Diamond and wasn't going to bother since hubby renewed his Diamond level already. 15,000 won't work for me, so I too will use what they make available and use up my reward credits to supplement my stays in 2013.

Did anyone hear if they are offering Diad next year and at what Tier amount?

Candy, I agree.

Instead of just moving on, I wonder how many people will play a "little more" this month just to renew diamond for next year.
