Does one pay tax on resort fees?

We are calculating our savings from being comped on our recent trip. Since we did not pay resort fees, I wonder if the tax is applied to the bill before or after resort fees are added.
I have never paid a resort fee, so I’m very curious.

Resort fees are subject to room taxes. Think of them as a devious, separately-listed portion of the room rate.

Yes, 12% tax added to the resort fee! Robbery.

That’s good to know for those of us wishing to be precise in our planned budgets for trips. It’s also good to know that I saved just that much more by being comped.
