Early check-in charges

We have not been to Vegas since March. We are scheduling a trip in January. Free rooms are available in several CE casinos and even though I am familiar with all CE casinos I generally take a look at TripAdvisor to get current comments on each casino. Low and behold I see several comments pertaining to "early" check-in fees. The comments refer to a charge for checking in any time before 4 p.m. How about updating us on that BS. Before and during the Great Race we stayed at CE properties from NOLA to Reno to Cleveland (no casino hotel but nice partner lodging available), always checked-in before 4 p.m. and never heard a mention of an early check-in fee. It is possible that since our rooms are always comped no early check-in fee was requested. We are looking at Ballys or PH for January and will be arriving at the hotel from Indy around 2 p.m. The mention of an early check-in fee will anger me. Those will knowledge of this issue please apprise me - will I be getting angry??
I have never heard of an early check in fee. We drive over from LA and always check in before noon. Best thing to do is pick up the phone and call them.
I have stayed at numerous harrah$$ properties and tend to check in early. I have never had a fee from one of these properties. I did run into it when i tried to check into the Fiesta Henderson one morning. $15???? You have to be kidding me. I checked my bag and went back at noon. It's pretty bogus!

I have never heard of an early check in fee. Sounds like something a travel agent or travel service would charge just to get more money from you. If I run into a situation that my room isn't ready, I say "Fine, Call me when it is." or ask if I can call them back to check. I normally have around left bags with bell desk as don't need the bother of them. Then I head out to get something to eat or play a bit. Several of my trips have gotten me to Las Vegas on a flight arriving at 8 AM and even then I have never been asked about and early check in fee and have never had to wait more than an hour or two for my room.

I checked in at PH about two weeks ago at 10 am on a Saturday and the room was ready and NO early checkin fees.

It's a shakedown recently tried by some hotels, something akin to additional fees for aisle seats on the airplane. They OFFER the 'opportunity' to sign up for "early check-in" in advance.

A scam, a sham, and a shakedown.

Haven't heard of it lately, after most folks gave a cyber stink-eye to the concept.

Don't fall for it.
My in-laws just experienced this at the Flamingo. They arrived hours before us last Tuesday
(approx 10:00 a.m. LV time). They were told if they wanted to check-in early the fee was $30. This despite the room was a comp. They bit and paid the $30. They wanted to unpack and wash up after their flight.

I told them they should have never agreed to that and should have asked for a manger. They are only gold so wonder if this fee is waived for plat or higher?

Never had that happen at CE prop, but have at RR/GVR.
I Always tell them, no way, I will check in later. (always leave my bag in rental car
til I actually get Rm.key in my hand.)

Good info so far. Thanks all. akron al a 10 a.m. check-in would be a perk to me so a payment to arrange that is not unreasonable. Normally it would be unlikely that a 10 a.m. check-in would be allowed. I was more concerned about the reports that any check-in prior to 4 p.m. was being assessed. Obviously you can always refuse and come back after 4 p.m. but I do not want to do that as I am adverse to standing in a line, especially twice, and I like to get into my room and pop a cold one from the beer picked-up near the rental car facility. The point has become moot as my brother-in-law and I decided to take a flight that does not arrive until 5:30 p.m. Now all I have to worry about is the casino being out of two bedded rooms. I have no desire to sleep in a King with my brother-in-law who weighs about 260.
A couple months ago we were at Horseshoe S. Indy and the group in front of me was told it would be $10 per room to check in early, but when I went to check in-my room was ready with no early check in fee. ???
