Early check-in charges

I've never been hit with an early check in at a CET property, and I usually get to Vegas early in the day (I want a full day in town). I'm wondering if it's a combination of who made the reservation earlier, the way you made the reservation, type of room, and where you stand on the TR scale. When I went to Rio in the summer, I was able to go straight to my comped room around 10:30 in the morning. And while I was eating lunch, the couple that I was talking to at check in saw me and asked if I had to wait for the room like they did. They were a bit surprised when I said "no".

So....there's got to be something in the system that assigns a priority. I'll just keep making comped reservations early, and directly with the hotel. And if they try to throw the fee on me, I'll just say "no thanks" and leave my bags at the bell desk.
Friends of mine had a comped room at Harrahs Rincon. They went to check in about 3 pm. They were told they would have to pay an early check-in fee even though their room was ready. They opted to leave their luggage at the bell desk and gamble for the hour until they could check in for "free". Ridiculous.

They tried this on me at Harrahs Atlantic City in October. I didn't bite, then didn't gamble at a Harrahs property all trip. I used to be dependent on all CET properties in AC since they were the only players club linked to Vegas, but now that Golden Nugget is here, ADIOS CET.

The comment made by Lt.ax49 regarding early check-in fee at Horseshoe SI is verified on a recent TripAdvisor posting. We are going next week and want to eat in Jack Binions. However we will be wearing jeans and we wanted to find out if we could get in dressed that way. I went to look at TripAdvisor comments to see if I could find a comment regarding the dress code. The newest comment addressed a patron being told the the new policy at HSI was $10 would be charged to check-in before 3 p.m. There are no other details about to whom this charge is to be applied and I find no discussion of this "policy" on the HSI website. I never stay at a casino hotel that charges a resort fee so CET gets most of my Vegas business. However I sometimes want to check-in early and charging an early check-in fee will P--- me off almost as much as a resort fee.
Are there any other places you could stay that don't charge an early check in fee?
Stayed at IP this year. Arrived at 1pm and were told we had to pay $24 for early check-in. We paid it just to get into the room.
Just returned from Rincon. We arrived about 9am on Friday. It was $25 for early check-in, and we decided to pay it and get checked into the room as we usually don't want to leave the casino area to go back and check-in later. Of course they also added tax to this charge.
Email on its way to corporate. Hope I get a survey for this stay.

Update on Rincon's construction. Valet parking is open in it's normal location. No other guest parking in the back lot. They are working on pool area and BBQ restaurant area now. Not sure if you can access the fitness room, as they had a portable screen blocking walkway about were BBQ restaurant entrance was located. It was noisy during day in hotel lobby area, construction ends by 11pm each day per letter left in guest rooms.
I just checked into Paris as 12 noon - they charged me $15 for the early check in fee.
This is scary, such a scam. I don't understand the thinking behind it other than greed.
